A vendor and Contract manager is a key player when it comes to an IT function's interactions with its suppliers of
hardware, software, and services. This individual is the person that provides product and service purchasing guidance for
the department. Although not necessarily limited to these items, responsibilities include evaluating a potential provider's
reputation, resources and expertise as well as helping with negotiations and contracts.
The Vendor and Contract Manager will be responsible for the review and develop of the IT vendor management
framework and strategy, operations and processes to support the vendor life cycle (from acquisition to disposition), the
function can be subdivided into the following key areas; contract management, relationship management, performance
management and risk management.
Adjustment are based on a disciplined approach based on operational results, enterprise risk related to using vendors,
changing business needs and evolving product/service vendors.
1. Formalizing practices to measure and manage vendor performance through targeted policies, controls,
processes, accountabilities and governance structures;
2. Enabling the organization to proactively manage and mitigate vendor specific risks;
3. Clearly defining the interaction points between the vendor and the organization throughout the vendor
management lifecycle to ensure consistent treatment of vendors according to their strategic or tactical
value;
4. Providing insight on the spending and performance of vendors;
5. Reducing contract non-compliance (and associated costs and effort);
6. Avoiding overpayment and/or under delivery;
7. Better positioning the organization in on-going vendor negotiations to increase value; and
8. Engaging key vendors for input and support into long-term strategic planning
Job Requirements and Skills
Previous Experience: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the use of Processes and IT is REQUIRED.
Graduate Qualifications: A first degree in a Numerate Engineering or BEng, BSc, BTech, Technology, Computer Science or
Mathematics REQUIRED.
Post Graduate Qualifications: MBA, MA, MSc would be of ADVANTAGE
Experience: 8-10 years post National Service work experience (NYSC is ESSENTIAL)
Certifications and Training Requirements: Relevant Certifications & Training will be considered such as: Prince 2, P3M3, Six Sigma
Green Belt, ISO, Quality Management, Gardner Vendor Management Framework, Supply Chain management Practices, Portfolio
Management, ITIL v3, PMP, BCP, Risk Management or Equivalent is of ADVANTAGE.
Requirements
1. Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Outstanding Process and Systems Documentation, Attention to Detail,
Highly Organised, Conflict Resolution, Presentation Skills, Excellent Communication skills, Highly Organised,
Team Oriented and Leadership, High Tolerance for Stress, Problem Management (analysis and resolution),
Customer Service Orientation, Relationship Builder, High level of Integrity, Time and Priority Management
Skills, People Management and Negotiation skills. Good technical reporting skills. E.g. usage of excel, charts,
presentations etc.
2. Sound operations experience with a minimum of 4 years managing global vendor relationships.
3. Well versed in key terminologies associated with contracts and understand how they interrelate. E.g.
indemnification, intellectual property, force majeure, amendments etc.
4. Leverage on relationship management having strong relationship-building, alignment-building and
negotiation skills with the ability to be personable and tenacious as the situation requires.
5. Excellent writing and communication skills including listening and negotiation; have the ability to build and
maintain relationships and work well as part of the team.
6. Ability to work in fast-paced, global environment.
7. Big picture thinking coupled with a strong focus on details: metrics, processes and contract
8. Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision
9. Must be hands on and able to multitask
10. Must possess organizational skills
11. Must be able to work with people of diverse orientation
12. Must be able to achieve job deadlines
13. Must understand and respect the reporting line
14. Previous experience or sound knowledge of the job of a Vendor Manager entails
