I attended an interview of late and was turned down 'cos the interviewer insisted the company wants a registered engineer. Can anyone in the house tell me what it takes to be a registered engineer and how long it can take? I want to upgrade myself.

A registered engineer is a graduate & practicing engineer who i registered with engineering professional body/regulating agency.
A Nigerian registered engineer:
1. Must be registered with Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE)
2. Must be registered with COuncil for Regulation ENgineering (COREN)
requirement is 3-5 years minimum engineering practice (nee to confirm this info)
i hope am right with all these, correction/updates to my statement is welcome.
cheers.
Yes BABA DVT,
Atleast 3 years of cognate experience can get you qualified for NSE, and then once that is achieved, you can enroll for COREN.
The others like ACEN, etc also follow but NSE and COREN are the real ones.
Thumbs up DVT.
if u have ur masters then its just 2 years of cognate experience and u will have to fill log books and write yearly reports which have to be endorsed by a registered practicing engineer in ur field of specialisation.this is just for NSE but after passing through it then COREN is next.
for 1st degree holders its 4 years cognate experience
In addition to the listed ones I also know dat U need to have 2years academic experience wit Masters(lecturing) in a recognised institutn of higher learning to be onrolled in NSE and COREN.
Oneluv.
yes that is correct
COREN/NSE members are the only recognised engineers. Thanks

Wat am saying is dat from the Academia point of view...those requirements hold. As an Engineer, U can be self employed, be under a company(employee 4 oilndgas, constructn, chemical, manufacturing etc), Academia etc.
Wat am saying is wit respect to the Academia...
