BCS Higher Education was formed in 1957; the British Computer Society (BCS) is the industry body for IT professionals and a Chartered Engineering Institution in UK.
With a membership of over 58,000 IT professionals in over 100 countries around the world, BCS is the leading Society in the field of computing and information technology
BCS Higher Education Examinations are the essential qualifications for a career in computing and information technology (IT)
They are internationally recognised Higher Education IT qualifications from BCS acknowledging practical experience and academic ability
They are accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) of England, Scotland and Wales.
There are three levels of qualification
1. Certificate in IT
2. Diploma in IT
3. Professional Graduate Diploma in IT
Academic Level of the Examination
The Certificate in IT is the academic equivalent to Year 1 of a UK university honours degree.
The Diploma in IT is the academic equivalent to Year 2 of a UK university honours degree.
The Professional Graduate Diploma in IT is the academic equivalent to the final year of a UK university honours degree.
( Professional Project (Diploma Level)
The Professional Project (Diploma level) is examined to the level expected of a project submitted in Year 2 of a UK university honours degree.
(Professional Graduate Diploma Level)
The Professional Project (Professional Graduate Diploma level) is examined to the level expected of a final year UK university honours degree project.

Distance learning makes it much easier for somestudents to complete a degree or get additional job-training whilebalancing work and family commitments. Because the hours when classwork can be completed are flexible, as most distance learning programsallow students to work at their own pace and on their own time, manystudents can complete their work during times when they are free,rather than scheduling their lives around a set classroom time. Withmore flexibility comes more responsibility on the part of the learner.Students must learn to work well independently and without the constantguidance and monitoring of an instructor, making distance learning achallenge for those who are not easily self-motivated.
