Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Those guys are bast.ards o. I had to resign from working with them late August last year.Thank God I did. And they also juju/jazz to tie down their employees and further enslave them. You may think will get a better job while still working with them. I pray. But if you are not careful, you wake up one morning to find out you have spent 15years working for them with nothing to show for it.
Guys, gird your loins.Take risks. It pays.

Re:
I wil sugest geting d labour unions (NLC&TUC) &Human right activist (o! May Gani's soul continue to rest in peace)Know of dis maltreatment,so dat dey can be picketed just d way dey did to Union bank recently. Half of d blame is also on our gullible HR managers who head dat dept,b/c 99 percent ar nigerians. They conive wit those "colonial masters" in enslaving dia felow naija brethren. Dey ar d ones dat even introduce contract employmnt which most banks, conglomerat es,NGO's and even govt MDA's use to recruit nigerians now.
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Left 2 me,I wldnt blame d Asians but as LANYAT said its d fault of our naija brothas in HR & Govt positions dat r encouraging dem.Its true dat jobs r scarce, but somtimes a lil bold step can go a long way. Lets say NO

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
My Brothers...things like these go on very well noticed by our leaders but until we start believing that RECORD KEEPING plays a major role in a revolution of any sort, we'l keep complaining for as long as we keep keeping up with everything we complain about in Nigeria.
If any one finds him/herself in such dreadful situations, our best bet is to try and document (to a great deal) everything that can be used to fight the situation. A typical example is the current battle against the freemason leaders of the world...people have started keeping track of their activities and all the conspiracy and this has proven to reduce their impact and hold on things...so a very conscious attitude towards documentation of facts can really help us present a strong case to our leaders who, even though are aware of these scenarios, will eventually have no choice but act to protect their public images.
Nigeria is fast becoming a clean society and I can sense it and these people will actually start performing to the benefit of the masses before being voted into offices so lets adopt this consciousness and then arm ourselves with enough facts because as we speak, there are several cases of these 'colonization' but no facts to show for it.
I am ever ready to support such a cause because I expect that our aim should always be to violate or change the status quo and get things done in the right way.
God bless us all!!!

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
@Antobi, U did well 4 bring ds type of issue up. It is clear dat if u hv nt worked in such a company, U would't understd what our fellow nigerian brother are passing thro in d name of work. Fellow Nigerians, I believe we can stop ds inhuman behaviour if only we can collectively send info to d appropriate quarters{ Mr president, Labour union etc}. And gv them some time to fine a lasting solution to problem BUT IF THEY FAIL B/CUS THEY ARE NT INVOLVED OR AFFFECT, WE CAN TELL THEM DAT NIGERIAN YOUTH ARE CAPABLE OF DOING THE SAME TIN DAT HAPPENED IN EGYPT, God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless NHJ. 1LUV.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
OMG!!!I cant believe that my fellow compatriots are suffering these in their various places of work... Mine is the worst. The main problems here is that they pack their own people into these countries and their papers get expired here, the immigration will come to my office to take money and will not deport them. They keep bringing them into these country with 1 very big qualification which depicts the fact that no other person in Nigeria can do the job when infact, they are trainees.
My fellow countrymen, please what can be done? We have suffered a lot and mine is worst.
Long live Nigerians!!!!!!!

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
i am in real support of this. I really hope that this is not where it ends. Everybody posting their opinions and does nothing. ???

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Our Govt is not doing anything to regulate these suckers that call themselves "expatriates" running the multinationals. Some, if not most of them are not graduates but would be packeged by their brothers as having much qualification and experience while they're being trainned on the job here by their other brothers who know the job.
The so called Govt Local content and the other one on expatraites are not yielding results because of corrupt Nigerians who also connive with them & get a cut and see thier own ppl suffer.
What kind of facts do you still need, what's the no of graduates that normally turns out for aptitude test in Nigeria when may be only 5 ppl is needed? Egypt(ian) Economy in case u don't know were more than 60% better than ours and our unemploment rating is about 120% worse than theirs, so do want facts to be sent 4m heaven?
The problem we have here is that we refuse to take responsibility or valuable risk. It's only two countries (China & Russia) that understood the game played by West. The West would normally set u up in a way that they would always be the highest beneficiary, & until u (Nigerians) start thinking & wake 4m ur sleep, we can't do things right by considering our ppl (economy) than selfish interest.
We can force our Govt 2 start thinking by making them & global community know exactly what we're experiencing, though they're aware but pretend not 2. Other ppl or aliens wouldn't do it 4 us.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
My fellow comrades, I agree absolutely with what everybody is saying in the house , it is high time we stood for our right so that we put an end to this inhuman treatment .

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Today’s Nigeria Tribune
OBJ, IBB, Abubakar, others may lose life benefits
| Print | E-mail
Written by Ayodele Adesanmi Thursday, 17 February 2011
FORMER presidents of the country and military heads of state may lose the life benefits approved last year, by the Senate for them, their wives and children.
On the list also are Senate presidents, their deputies, speaker of the House of Representatives, their deputies and chief justices.
The Senate had, last year, through the passage of a bill for an Act to provide remunerations for former presidents, heads of the federal legislative houses and chief justices of the federation, approved the benefits.
The bill stipulated that members of the families of the deceased former presidents and vice-presidents would be entitled to annual payments, as shall be recommended by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and approved by the National Assembly and in manner as shall also be prescribed by the National Assembly.
But, on Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs declined to lobby for funds for them in the 2011 budget.
The chairman of the committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, told officers from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), who were in the National Assembly to defend their 2011 budget, that he could not defend the request.
Senator Adeyemi’s refusal was hinged on the fact that past presidents did not deserve that treatment, because they were comfortable, while he insisted that they had “mismanaged Nigeria.”
According to him, “my conscience will not allow me to champion it. The past leaders should sacrifice the perk for the development and employment which they failed to provide during their reigns.
“Tell them to sacrifice. The hospitals have no drugs, the roads are bad, there is no electricity and most graduates are unemployed.”
The Permanent Secretary in the office of the SGF, Mr Taiye Haruna, who represented the Head of Service, said former presidents were to be provided with a five-bedroom duplex within Nigeria; allowance for their staff, and three vehicle to be replaced every three years.
He added that the former presidents are also to enjoy free medical treatment abroad and a luxurious treat whenever they are in Abuja.
But Smart Adeyemi disclosed that “In a situation where there are a lot of unemployed graduates roaming the streets and threatening a revolution, rather than give this money to them, we should use it to generate employments.”.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Na so my brothers, I'm currently working for an indian company in kogi state where i'm being paid #30,000 monthly 7am to 7pm infact we are just working like slave for them. i'm even thinking of quiting this month end. something must be done about this by government
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
a luxurious treat whenever they are in Abuja.
Lets take to the street because of this statement above...they are part of our problems.
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Its quite pathetic. The truth be say this people apply the same suffer head wey dey their place here. If only our leaders can stipulate a minimum wage for different cadres of employees and place serious punitive measures to check employers who default at the same time the Judiciary should equally sit up to the task.
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Imagine a graduate of civil engineering been paid 11,300 naira/month, in a road construction industry in maiduguri... And our leaders are sitting down comfortable in their office, i think it's time we make it HOT 4 them...
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
My brothers it is high time we make move on this sensitive issue because if we relent or keep shot our children will not forgive us because they will ask us dady mummy where were you when ASIAN , LBANESE, CHINESE forstratinfg the labour market.
Progressive where are you?
My opinion and a surgestion
1. Let nigerians working in some of this establisment get facts, pictures, address of stablisment
2. Let us have a medium where our opinion can be pass across like TV station, Dailys news paper, Joint, public places
3. Let arrange with a lawyer among all our colleague in chambers who can use this as a project
I rest my case for now.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
When i ponder on things like this, my spirit weeps! A country richly bless would totally ignore the youths who re supposed 2 be the leaders of tomorrow.
Please permit me 2 ask some obvious questions....
1. What has NCC done in view of exploitation of Nigerians by foriegn Network provides?
2. Why are the Asians free 2 do wat they want with unemployed youths without govt regulations?
3. Why is so hard for the legislators to pass the bill for the upward review of the minimum wage?
4. After comrade Adams left NLC, wat has the present excos achieved?
China and other asian countries re 'blessed' wit a large population hence labour is relatively cheap and exploitation inevitable.
I rest my case.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
it is not possible for them to treat us this way if we have not been doing it to ourselves.i used to have this mentality of yours but i have learnt my lessons.dont we have casual workers in nepa nnpc etc?so if a foreigner comes and does the same what is the big deal.my guy stop being a complainer.check inward before you look outward
-
Re:
@joe4life,haba if nigerians ar given oportunity to choose wia to work as casuals,i bet u wont find any goin 4 those asian 'prisons'or slave camps. No any naija parastatal wil tel u to work 7am-7pm. U wil also b asignd flexible shedules not like d asians wia u wil a askd to execute 3pple's job under presure or strict supervision.

Re:
I rememberd, i thnk abt 2yrs ago, julius berger 'laborers'in abuja went on strike demanding dat dia oyinbos shd enta same trailer used to convey dem to dia various sites. D strike didnt make any headway,d oyinbos stil cruise in aircondition caravans to dia sites. May God help us!

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
My Brodas and Sistas, U are write, infacts am also suffering from this predicament where am working. Am a staff of Delta Steel Comp. and tins are getting woast everyday. U will not believe dat some of this Indains recharge money 4 a month is more than our pay not to talk of their allowances. They are promoted everyday. An indian IT student who came into the company inless than fears years has become a manager, while some graduates have worked for this same company for years without any increase in their rank.
My fellow comrade, it not about lamenting on this issue. the question is!
What is to be Done?
How to go about?
How to produce good result?
How to seek for seek for hearing?
Lets try t devots some means to achieve all this, then we will be heading somewhere.
I say Long Live NHJ, Long Nigerian Youth and Long Live Nijja

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
This is a very serious problem and its high time we join hands to address it, well with proper planning and coordination we can achieve what we want to achieve,
well one of my suggestion is that from the going ons in Tunisia and Egypt we can see that the Internet is a very powerful tool, the power of the internet cannot be over-emphasized.
So we can start by putting up a website, setting up a twitter account, setting up a facebook page, gradually we will get the attention of the local and international media then after alll these the final step will be to come out together and march, by then the govt is already aware and might want to do something to address the issue.
If there is continued proliferation of info on these companies and the acts they do by victims, where victims post on the website and the FB page and twitter account is used to brodcast it to the world, the pressure on them will be unbearable, the will situp and improve the working conditions.
they do what they do because of two reasons,
1.the govt doesnt care how its citizens are treated by foreigners
2.the foreigners think nobody knows how they treat Nigerians.
so we can take advantage of 2 so as to make the govt sit up and set up regulations, due to obvious reasons we can start anonymously but must will make known the name of companies and foreign staffs perpetrating such abuses, latr when the struggle gains momentum we can own up with our real identities.
more suggestions pls,it might seem a very difficult task now,but if we mobilize we will achieve, there is strength in collectivism,
thank u.

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Antobi thank u so much for this thread. It burdens my heart to read about all dis barbaric treatment being meted on our youths in the name of working for a multinational. This so called Indians,Chinese and d rest are subjecting us to the same inhuman treatment they subject their populace through.
It's high time we let them knw that this is NIGERIA and not India or China or ... I m calling on those affected to get proofs-preferably video-use ur fones-use wateva means necessary and lets send dis proofs to d NLC,TUC,National Assembly etc.Who says we r not capable of repeating wat has happened in Tunisa,Egypt, etc, this time, not against our president, but against dis multinationals, against our representatives and senators if they refuse to act wen dey get dis proofs; for if dey cannot defend the youths of dis great country with the powers dat have been vested on dem,den dey need not be called our legislators. My fellow youths,it's either we collectively move dis country forward for a better and great tomorrow,or we continue to wallow in fear and watch our trrw slide into d abyss of ruin for which prosperity will judge us. >:(

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
You will also blame our useless politicians and past governors, who will siphon and take our money to foreign lands and invest there. The indians are the worst and i feel like seeing JONATHAN myself to discuss these issues with him.No be small thing.OK FOODS,BEST BITE etc are all asians firms.
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
i still dont understand your point.is it possible for them to maltreat us if we dont maltreat ourselves.dont we have mater degreee holders that sweep floors for these people in europe.we blame govt for everything.i worked as a casual laborer in dangote and am a graduate.so why should i blame chinese indians.pls forget some of us are more terrible than these guys is just that we dont have the opportunity to project our wickedness.go and read frantz fanon,u will know the meaning of jealous settlers
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Brothas, i understand very well. if WE don,t start cutting off their heads, i don,t think the government will recognize this fact of exploitation, humiliation, injustice and slavery in MY FATHER LAND. this is our home, some fucking hole can,t come and exploit our graduate who have spent hard earned money to get trained in the university after all the WAHALA and want to treat us as illiterates. Go to Tower Aluminium, Asaba Aluminium where a graduate is paid N24,250 per month. imagine u are employed and an illiterate earns more than you. i know the government is aware. they are only waiting for us graduate to start up something by taking the bold step of dealing with these illitrate that called themselves expatriate before they can come to our aid.
BROTHA, THE COUNTRY IS ON OUR SIDE AND WITH US ON THIS MATTER. GOD THE NIGERIAN GRADUATE, GOD BLESS NIGERIA
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
some of these guys are illegal immigrants, uneducated and very crude in nature.i worked with one from UK, he is not educated, a carpenter but a project manager in Nigeria. i give the blame fully to our govt. we are suppressed in our own land, treated like 3rd class citizens! what can we do? there is no job anywhere and they take advantage of it. our immigration body is not trying at all! people who are not professionals coming here to put us down. my company did a project where 98 percent of resource persons were naija. on completion, a Lebanese that could not speak a correct sentence, who does not know one bit technicality in the job was there during the commissioning as the project coordinator. i cry for naija. inside oppression, outside depression! which way our leaders? ::) ::)
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
I hope ghana must go bag will not change hands along the way? cos.that's the only way we can get to the bottom of this issue. ;D
-
Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
Do you really blame these people? It takes two to Tango!
They can not be so bold to come to Nigeria and mete out wickedness to Nigerians without due collaboration from our Nigerian compatriots.
Take a look at the letterheads of these companies managed by these people; they have the names of top Nigerians as their Chairmen and members of their Board. Reason being that, if there is any "Trouble", they have "the powers that be" to shield them.
In addition, because of the greed and corruption in the land, their Nigerian "associates" have thrown caution to the winds and have fully engaged in illegality with these companies; ranging from Tax evasion, use of substandard materials, poor staff welfare etc.
In all, the government is to be blamed for majority of the atrocities committed by these companies. If the government of Nigeria places high premium on labour laws and staff welfare both in Public and Private sectors, am sure these Monsters won't transmit as much wickedness as they do today!
However, the earlier the mass sensitization and subsequent "revolution" begins the better! 8)

Re: slave labour these foreign asian employers
@Natimy, please they shouldn't leave but cautioned, there should be laws policies protecting the welfare of Nigerian labor force and job security where you have the right to take any arsehole to court if he/she treats you disrespectfully.
