JUST IMAGINE YOURSELF IN THAT SHOE, INNOCENT YOUNG AND VIBRANT GUYS WHOM THEIR LOVED ONES ARE WAITING PATIENTLY TO RECEIVE BACK HOME AFTER THEIR LONG FRUSTRATION IN OUR UNIVERSITIES.IT IS PARTHETIC. JOIN THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST NYSC.....

Thank You 4 ur contribution, am still a corper in C/river state, i didnt know the meaning of NYSC b4 but wen i started my own, i now see that NOW YOUR SUFFERING CONTINUE. Killing our tomorrow's leaders in the process of their father's land. NYSC should be scraped and cancelled. It doesnt make sense again,they are using it loot government or let me say our money. I would join the advocate of people/organisations calling for the OUTRIGHT CANCELLATION OF THE Now Your Suffering Continue Scheme..
NYSC should be cancelled in the country because the notion for which it was established/created has been defeated.Where is the unity in Nigeria?where the hell is the accord among tribes?Militants are killing their fellow indigenes talk less of innocent blood being sent to their early graves in hundreds all in the name of serving ones fatherland...
The only antidote to this NYSC if not cancelled is that every liable graduate who wants to serve should be made to serve in his/her Geo-political zone..This would help cushion the massacre,in human treatment,kidnappings,burning of properties,nepotism and man slaughter being meted out to our FUTURE LEADERS in their place of primary assignment....
LEKE,TOLA AND IBUKUN...........although, painfull,but the greatest sorrows,calamity,curses,woes and ill luck goes to the group/men who took your lives...You are our Heroes....The labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain.

Nigerian youths arise for the Campaign against NYSC
Among d scores killed in Jos, the story of 3 young corps members- Ibukunoluwa Akinjobi, 23, Leke Akande, 20, and Tola Odesola,23- truly brings furious tears to the eyes. One of them was reported to have sensed the danger a few minutes to his death and called his brother in Lagos to warn him of the imminent bad news. "They are moving towards our side of the town". he informed helplessly. "They seem to be getting closer to our gate. Please pray, brother, they are now outside our house. I dont know why they have come but they are here now" He was still on the phone when the assaillants struck.
Where are we going with this?
God will punish anyone backing something causing us to suffer in this country.

Its quite unfortunate that some saddist had to revenge their "problem" by killing Nigeria's future leaders. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. I happened to also be a corper in Akwaibom and from my experience NYSC is quite interesting. Its just that one may experience certain difficulties notwithstanding the difficulties should not come to the extent of being killed outrightly. In my opinion, NYSC should continue, and it should improve (positively) in the way it handles corpers i.e. the allowance should be increased, the welfare of the corpers should be taken into proper consideration. infact, Nysc should return and improve on its initial objectives. It shouldn't post corpers to areas were the corpers are not appreciated.
hi demola,it is on fortunate that ur a victim of NYSC ascondee.ur zone is preparing to give u an extension of service.pls take it with a good heart.Ur LGI(LOCAL GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR ) should by now tell you the truth of your case with NYSC KOGI.Be a man ,take things the way u see it.pray for Gods mercy.

This is not good for the 'brand Nigeria' we are all trying to build. The future of the country lies largely in the hands of the young educated ones... being killed in the name of national service. If corpers are not killed by the so called religious fanatics they will be killed by car accident. I think excemption letter is the way out bcos nobody apart from ur family cares for u.
In my own value judgement, NYSC is nothing but a legitimate 'abuse of Manpower',...Nobody should feed me that 'Unity' crap!...Unity my foot!
One can even slice the piles of Jealousy, exuding from our Northern brothers whenever they see a 'Coffer' as they call them...why wont they be embittered, seeing their mates from the other parts of the country,wearing that 'God forsaking' nysc Kaki....while they are still roaming the streets as 'Alamageris'!

The Northerners, dont even blink to kill 'Coffers' whenever they succede in stage managing crisis of any sort!.....what has corpers got to do with LGA Election!..........What has Yusuf Bomoi done about it, What has Yar'Adua done about it? Basically NOTHING!......Afterall they are not stupid enough to allow their Children to serve!.....Somebody should please ask those disciples of nysc to tell us the state Yar'Adua Pikin them served!..or are they not interested in the 'Unity' crap!....Na only Posterity go judge all them indirect Murderers in this Naija!....They have sworn to make us suffer under the 'SUN' or in the 'RAIN........One Luv!

i really thank the almighty God for causing me to be absent at Jos when the incident started because i am also serving presently in Jos. If not for God may be I ll have died too.

My thoughts are with the families of the slain corpers. Its sad and unfortunate!Its disheartening that the government has again failed to protect the people.Taking into account the bigotry that has plagued Jos politics in the recent past,a responsible government is expected to be alert and proactive in preventing such an occurrence. :(
That been said, I leave you with a food for thought.Imagine that you've written your final exams in the university,you passed.Then you have to start looking for a job outright without having the opportunity to appreciate the beauty, the diversity of Nigeria. Without the opportunity to jump-start your career with work experience gained during the NYSC year or not to mention the chance of being retained. Often,employers are more comfortable with people they have worked with especially fresh graduates.Many corpers have met with their employers,spouses and other opportunities during this period.
My take?Lets not throw the baby out with the dirty water. What happened to those corpers, could have happened to the Hausa politician, Ibo businessman,Yoruba lecturer or Birom civil servant resident in the town. Lets be agents of change,one Nigeria! That was the dream of the founders of NYSC!
What is really happening,does it mean that Nigeria has no protection over the Corp members ?

NYSC with the way it stands seeks to force the youths to love the nation. You can't force the youths to love their nation were they do not see hope. There are better ways to it. But i am sure those benefitting(stealing) from the programme with the way it is organized at present would not let go. NYSC must be reviewed. The bane of unity in the country is poverty, And it must be tackled but not with the rubbish called NYSC as it is today.
Thanks to Jibowu for his positive acronym of the name NYSC - Now Your Success Continues. I have just graduated and will be up for service come February 2009 but it saddens me to hear of the news of the attack onto our members and the fact that it will just die down like down.
May God have mercy upon us in this country. We just have to hold onto God for His strength and Grace.
It is a bad tale and suffice to say that no one is standing up for us.
The NYSC is good in prenciple, but it may prove unuseful in the spate of lack of jobs. The government is to blame and must be made to pay for the deaths. Let us wage a campaign against lack of respect for life rampant across the counrty.

demola i sympathize with you but i grues you did not take proper permission before traveling...that is why you are suffering. next time do the right thing at the right time. you are an adult and a graduate. assuming you were found to be missing (God forbid) how can your Local Government Inspector explain ur w hereabout?Quote:

the incident in jos is very pathetic, and condemnable, may we not experience such again. Amen, i grew up in the north and i was once a refugee (for 3 weeks in the barracks) during the crisis in 1987, in zaria. my question here is that were the corps members wearing their Kakhi uniform or they were in mufty like any other citizen? we have seen students loosing their lives on their way to the university, many in ABU Zaria were killed in many crisis, does that warrant the scrapping of universities.
i expect some of us to suggest that corps members be insured, not just against death but sickness, or they be registered with the national health insurance scheme (NHIS). we should think of how this scheme can be sustained as other countries in Africa are taking a cue from this scheme.

Nigeria is a useless country and its leaders clueless I stand on my word without apology. Imagine promising lives taken away just like that and you are here telling me about banks.
The complaints metted on the scheme is enough to see its end.
What are its benefits?
What have those who have served gained from it?
Are you trying to tell me because of the few lucky ones in the scheme the vast majority should perish?
And how much is been lavish on this scheme and amount that is worth developing 10 universites yearly.You are sent to a place where God knows best,abandoned without care for one full year and you call that plesant NONSENSE

well everyonne will certainly agree that those fresh graduates really met their untimely death that and that is not a good tail for the parents. I do want to add that NYSC students should be very much protected from any of such occurrence in the future as for the scrapping! Well i really don't concur
