THE DEREGULATION RUBBLISH
On thursday february 26th 2009, the presidential steering committee on the gobal financial crisis , headed by the president umaru yaradua confirmed that the federal government would no longer subsidise the prices of petroleum products in the country .government also said it would immediately review the current pricing arrangement to ensure that market forces determined prices of petroleum products. in this season of global economic meltdown , when many government all over the world are introducing pallative to cushion the effect of the meltdown , our own government are busy doing everything possible to add to the problems of nigerian mases who never voted for them in the first place.
Tell me how can a sane government think of removing subsidy from petroleum produts in a country where the economy is generator powered, what will be the effects of such decision on the nigerian people who get nothing from the government aside that.
The PDP lead government claim to have spent N640bn on subsidies of petroleum products in last one year and said that it must not continue.
Fellow nigerian it may interest you to know that the efcc is currently investigating the paymant of over N60bn of subsidy money to some contractors who imported nothing.
Again in the last 10years that the PDP have being in power, the four refinery in nigeria have not work despite the billions of naira sunk in it.
How can a sane government think of removing subsidy of petroleum products thereby leaving us at the mercy of these greedy marketers who have made it imposible for our refineries to work because of their self-interest at these time when the economic meltdown is biting very hard.
My brother who work with floor mills of nigeria plc told of how the company laid-off over 2000 of it work force just last week because of the economic meltdown. how will the millions of nigerian whom have no income survive.
In the absence of opposition parties in nigeria , i call on the labour unions, civil society groups and well meaning nigerians to please wake up and fight these no good people that have nothing to offer poor mases of this country to a stand still.
