@ kente 101: I really like your write up; a lot of it corresponds to the way I view things but I will have to disagree on one point.

No job is made for anyone, neither is anyone in this life for anyone else. There is nothing 'Nigerian' about aspiring to something greater ( in relation to one person leaving one job for another) as it may well be within one's career goal to gain experience through different companies. Shell on the other hand did not make SITP for the unemployed, they made it for the most capable and if these guys happen to be already gainfully employed, so be it.

And finally, I don't know how much non-Nigerian working experience you have, but money is ALWAYS considered worldwide when making job choices. If not, we might as well just work for free eh?

@franco4christ. i had to break my silence 4 ur sake. i wonder y evrybdy ignored ur enquiry. application 4 SITP usually come up around Feb, mar, april. i applied April 1st to be precise. i think this year's appl closed mid-april. presently, u cant apply now. till next year, just follow naijahotjobs as from january next year. u wil get d info wen it is out. applying for SITP goes beyond uploading ur CV. u need to register online, and then u need to APPLY for local opportunities (technical graduate). u asked if u r qualified as an industrial chemist. though shell usually prefers engineers and geo-scientist, try ur luck. am 99.99% sure if u apply and ve a 2.1, u wil be called 4 SITP test. and if u do well, u wil be called 4 SRD along with chem engrs. i know of a person who read quantity surveying and was called for SRD long with civil engrs. dont allow ur course of study 2 be a stumbling block to your progress. be determined and sure, i know u will be there next year!

@all. i ve always empahized this: dont be narrow-minded about this SITP stuff. be prepared for either success r failure. tho i pray HARD to succeed, I will not die if i am not successful. Shell is made for man, not man for Shell.

The truth is, this SRD was the most competitive ever. Not because the partcipants were exceptional, but because the required number from the bunch is way lower than usual, 45 or thereabout. This is the major reason why the succesful candidates have not been contacted yet. also the learning village has to be certified to be in g

Variety of reliable sources. The number was from the SRD co-ordinator on my day, and the fact it is more competitive from a reliable internal source. The fact the SRD learning village needs to be in good condition from a graduating member and the house. All in all, i hope they can complete this thing quick and not drag on like the last mobil recruitment.
I believe everyone who rightfully got to the SRD has the innate capabilty to survive this Nigerian job market and make a success not withstandng the outcome of the SRD.

@ lookingforward: if that is the case then Shell has just complicated matters for itself by inviting those '11 guys' for the SRD. I am not disputing your source, just a food-for-thought.

I wonder where u guys got the info abt the "1 guys". I got info that SRD ran in PH for abt 2 weeks. I doubt if that wld be for just "11 guys".

This is my first post on this thread and below is my opinion.

Shell has some projects (new and ongoing) requiring near-zero downtime for optimum profitability. The worst human cause of downtime is host-community unrest hence Shell's decision to recruit more SITP from its major host states. I feel Shell is currently facing two challenges:
1. Most of the people invited for the SRD probably didnt meet the benchmark.
2. Most of the people who met the benchmark are not from the host communities (I didnt say host states)

Shell probably called some SRD attendees (those that fall into category 1 above) to ask for their community of origin just to find out if they can be considered.

The people who later attended the SRD in PHC were probably called because of the low success rate of the host community candidates. Some people may argue that some of the last minute invitees were non-Niger Deltans. True! But I see that as a distractive ploy meant to water down speculations from certain quarters.

another twist to this Shell SRD and from none other than enahoro bernard:
Me: when will SRD result be out, Sir?
Bernard: END OF THE MONTH.
Me: When the will the SITP for this year Start?
Bernard: Definitely last Quarter of the yr.
Me: Precisely when, Sir?
Bernard: Hopefully October.

this thing is turning into another thing entirely.

This year's SITP can only start in the last quarter. Shell is a multinational which knows everything about employee-employer contracts. Considering that most employers in Nigeria adopt the one month notice of disengagement policy and the minimum length of time required for a comprehensive medical examination of prospective employees, it makes sense for Shell to give its future employees at least 6 weeks to start preparing for the new challenge.

I strongly believe near-successful candidates will be called for medicals latest 3rd week of August while successful candidates (those who are medically fit) will probably get their letters latest 1st week September.
