Hello guys. I received a call from a certain charles oweda/owedia purportedly of shell. He asked if i would be available for a one year training programme. I wasnt shortlisted for the shell recruitment day. Has anyone else recieved such a cal or is this a scam call. Anyone with useful info should please helpout. Thanks

@ephisi: Most likely it would be a scam. If I were you, being adventurous, I might go with the idea for a while and see where it leads but when he starts asking you to pay for something or the other then dude, i guess then would be the time for you to scram!

I am sure anyways that it would have a 99% probability of being a scam!

You have been nominated by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to be considered in the selection of candidates for a one (1) year Engineering Design Training at the Shell Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) office in Port Harcourt.

The program is expected to run from 9th August 2010 to 29th July 2011.

You are required to confirm your availability to participate in the programme if you are eventually selected, by return email to me latest Thursday 5th August 2010.

It seems congratulations r in order so let me b the first to say congrats. I hav never heard of this program so like u, il be waiting on the house to help clarify.

@Ephisi... Congratulations are sure in order. However, wat are the terms and conditions of the offer? I hope there's high hope on Shell retaining u after the training. Also, are u being considered as staff-in-training?

Thanks guys. Honestly i dont know what its all about but i will let u guys know of latest developments. Im sure u are all aware of the local content bill. The bill gave birth to the local content board and monitoring commitee. so it is a new program in line with the Governments local content drive. I expect other companies to follow suit cos the FG is on their neck.

@ edon . Yes. The mail is from a shell domain. The guy says he,ll get back to me if im selected. Its obviously the effects of the new Local Content policy of the Federal Government.

@ephisi: Congrats but like I said before please proceed with caution. I am not trying to be pessimistic but i think these are the questions you should ask;

1) How did they get hold of your contact? Have you had previous dealings with Shell? I would guess so since you already wrote the SITP screening test.

2) Do you know of any other person who received such call/email?

3)Why notify you just now about a program that would commence in about some days time?

4) ...and like edonbizzle said, please confirm whether the mail was sent from a shell domain.

@ dexter you know how we nigerians do our things. Its certainly legit. Just praying to God thta im selected. All i know is that its the newly established Local Content Development and Monitoring Board that nominated me. It could be a Nigerdelta thing, Im not sure. cheers

Yes I think I agree with you, ephisi.You must have had some prior experience/exposure with Shell.However, I am sure this has nothing to do with the SRD.

If you were part of this last SRD, then you are in the running just like the rest of us(in addition to the good news you have now).....so just be positive and accept my hearty congratulations....Cheers!
