SRD Invitation

This year's SITP can only start in the last quarter. Shell is a multinational which knows everything about employee-employer contracts. Considering that most employers in Nigeria adopt the one month notice of disengagement policy and the minimum length of time required for a comprehensive medical examination of prospective employees, it makes sense for Shell to give its future employees at least 6 weeks to start preparing for the new challenge.

I strongly believe near-successful candidates will be called for medicals latest 3rd week of August while successful candidates (those who are medically fit) will probably get their letters latest 1st week September.

@ all it is well. just go on with ur normal daily business or duty or activity. Shell is well known for taking pple unawares. cant conclude on anything now until Thursday dis week. will try and get a more concrete info on that day. Cheers

@favoured i know of someone who got his employment letter 2days to SITP in the last 2 batch. so dont base ur conclusion on that pls.

@favoured & all. I ve always thot in dat line too but wit minor variations. I ve alwys felt those called were those who had an average performance & shell was trying to use a sort of quota system to consider them. I ve always thought dat those initial 240(1st 3 weeks) who werent called were outrightly accepted or rejected (based on their performance) but those called were still being considered. But d theory has a loophole-it's not only niger deltans dat were called. But dat can be solved logically; shell (& other IOCs) believes in diversity & so shell will like to take people 4m evry part of d country but wit emphasis on d people 4m d host community, & dat was y other indigenes such as kano were recalled. So i think shell considers merit, federal character &host communities. I believe am right. I call dat the Favoured-w9999 theory!
From all the info and comparison gathered 4m dis yr's SRD & dat of last yr, i can vounch 4 d transparency of dis recruitment process if it goes beyond dis week

Well called some insider and he said he placed a call to the big lady in H.R and she said the process is still on. They are still tryin to take a good decision an the process cos they have got some pple on their waitin list as well. May GOD almighty help his children.

@ wemustmakeit: Why don't you just let the matter rest for the now. People's BP have been slowly returning to normal and you want to now make it skyrocket again. I personally feel it's best if we all just relax on the matter until they start calling. The info you shared just now is nothing new, so you understand what i mean.

Ahan Og2711, chill na. Previous years have had similar threads run thruout the whole recruitment process. Theres nothing new there. Its a free world. If u hav high Bp issues, then u may stay away from the thread or forum. JMHO. No offense meant, sir!

I dont come on here as often anymore. I also realised that Im more likely to see the news in my inbox first than on this thread but I really hav enjoyed being a part of it so far and am really grateful for all the info shared here.

Im not sure I really get the high bp thing tho. Is it a do or die affair? Did we not all put in our best at the SRD? Then the rest is not in our hands. We can pray also for Gods grace, to thank Him in good or bad news, to be grateful if the outcome is positive and be gracious n strong if the outcome is negative.

@impish: you only don't understand the BP because you probably have something good to fall back on in the event that it doesn't work out. Some guys really believe that if e no work out, then they are as good as dead. E.g. 'Biniman'

Then again, there are people like me who just don't like waiting. I believe they should just release the results and let people get over the whole process already!! Anyhow you look at it, getting into shell is an important part of ANYBODY's life and so the less anticipation one gets about it, the better..

I also dont like waiting, I really wish they wud just release the results already! I feel like they made up their minds imm. they saw us at SRD whether they were taking us or not so I dont believe they r "still making decisions". But na dem no jare. I cant shout!

I could sound like a broken clock now, when i say the reason for the delay is because of the competitive nature due to the little number Shell Nigeria is willing to recruit. Not everybody will make it obviously, but my word is that whatever the outcome, as long as you were able to make it to the SRD stage, you have the innate ability to survive this Nigerian job market so just be patient. the number they require now is 45 compared to ususally double of that they normally require.
you can do the simple mathematics and realise it makes the job more difficult for the recruiting team. patience is the watch word and i won't commit myself to a speculative timeline.

@ lookinforward: I doubt that number. Call it hope/ expectation but it seems impractical. For one, the extra people were not 11 as originally thought but 20. It just seems hard to understand why they'd call more people to the over 200 they already had to select only 45 people.

But then again, until they call, then we'll know the number...

@lookingforward, I disagree with u on the fact that shell wants to call only 45pple for SITP. My reason is bcos last year was shell worst year in terms of business in recent times and they employed abt 74pple, dis year, shell is already makin profit and there is a serious mandate on the IOC to create and employ nigerians infact that is the presidents major headache now, so I see no reason why shell will decide to reduce the number of ppls for SITP. I believe that what might be causing dis delay colud be that they are waitin for vacancies from various dept within shell and compling the number of pple they might be retiring based on redundancy (manager or those top staff that drink only tea in the office witout contributing to the table but collect fat pay). They do dis exercise every year but they have not done that of this year. Like I said earlier its my opinion oh. So dnt quote me.

lookingforward, where do u get intel from? u are very close to the exalt figure SITP rm mgt is preparing for. based on the numbers of Rms they were asked to prepare.

but I pray and strongly bliv that the number will be greatly top.

@oilprince: I am still laughing at your last quote. How can you take awa any information from the guys who prepare rooms?!

So if there are really 45 people coming, these 'room management' folks will prepare only 45 rooms and leave the remaining in disrepair?

I also got info from some estate service guys in edjeba Vila that they were told to prepare 50+ space. It is possible that the 50+ are in addition to the 74 being used by the last set. This was a day to the passing out day

guys, guys guys, let analyze all this info and come to a reasonable conclusion:

1.Some guys where sent mails bout their success in SRD last year, of which some had gone for medical while some where placed on hold and told that they will be contacted within the next 12 months pending when they find suitable positions for them. all of these guys are yet to get their offer letter

2. earlier this year Shell advertised for SITP on a very "coded" way ,of which they refused to publish the openings in the National dallies which was the standard practice. I believe they did this because the number of people they want this year is very few.

3.The aptitude test came barely a month after after the applications for openings closed,the test were written in 3 days each in only Lagos and Port Harcourt as against Lagos, PH and Warri in previous years. In previous years over 6000 applicants write the test but this year, from my calculations I think a max of 3000 people wrote.

4. Then came SRD which lasted only about a month in Lagos and Warri of which I heard from a very reliable source that 250 were shortlisted and only 50 people are needed this year,as against the usual 400 to 100 in previous years

5. My opinion about the Special 20 that were called for SRD in PH was that they are more of the host communities candidates who did well in the test but were initially not called. (this guys to me were called because I heard again from a reliable source that this year's HR standard for SRD is very very high and that some of the fist batches that did their SRD in warri did not perform well at all)

From this will can infer that Shell's Priority is the successful SRD candidates of last year , while this year's successful applicants will be merged with them.

I dont think it is business savvy to take only 50 people when you have a class that can take 100+ people .

I can finally conclude that total of grads in SITP class this year should be 80+

@ oilprince the if really u want to base ur conclusion on the number of room that means there won't be anybody attendin SITP dis year cos DPR uses shell edjeba(their rooms and other facility) for their induction for new intake which is just around the corner.my guess is that they are fixing abt 45rms that are not in good condition cos its their duty to make sure the facility is always in good condition. Abi those wey dey maintainace for there go only dey work wen SITP no dey on? They are just doin their work. Besides shell edjeba is not only for SITP but a shell facility for all sorts of training and business.

@Positivethinker, if top Shell H.R. staff members stumble and read thru postings on this forum, I'm sure they will be filled with some much of ;D cos several astonishing insinuations herein. Always feel andrenaline pumping whenever I read certain infos from "reliable source(s)". At least we're all more certain that our fates in this regard will be known in a couple of days.
My interactions with a couple of shell staffs today made me to understand that with Shell Nigeria, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN (can decide to take just 45 persons or even 120 persons or postpone the scheme indefinitely).

@Oilprince, I wish Shell will be generous to use up those 200 rooms for our batch of SITP. (anything can happen!).

@all- it seemed we are mostly on the optimistic side of the ongoing debate of how many shell are taking for this yr's SITP. i think we shouldn't continue to delude ourselves- we should be rational. we should be disputing 'facts' with 'facts' not what we think. we all want to be there- is it? i think yes. We should continue to pray fervently especially in this Holy Month of Ramadan. Allah Shall see us. Amin.

On a final note, please if one says Shell are taking 45 then informed members of this forum should use their contact to authenticate or disprove that 'fact'.

even an Authentic fact/info today is subject to changes coz we are all humans. Shell HR/other companies will tell U in 3weeks time and change ground. Only God is supreme.

the only thing we applicants have got is "Keeping Faith" & be optimistic, thrill ourselves coz it is needed for movement

and as we all knows
faith is just like the air we breath in, the day we stop having it, we die
