@denass & all. I agree wit u. Shell wouldnt ve called us to d SRD if we didnot have a chance of success. Lets stop emphasizing niger-delta, north, yoruba, etc. Tho am not a prophet, not all niger-deltans wil b succesful. Also, not all non-niger deltans wil make it either. Its divisive. Lets just pray 4 success cos am sure nobody had a perfect show in d SRD.

Hello guys. I received a call from a certain charles oweda/owedia purportedly of shell. He asked if i would be available for a one year training programme. I wasnt shortlisted for the shell recruitment day. Has anyone else recieved such a cal or is this a scam call. Anyone with useful info should please helpout. Thanks
@ephisi: Most likely it would be a scam. If I were you, being adventurous, I might go with the idea for a while and see where it leads but when he starts asking you to pay for something or the other then dude, i guess then would be the time for you to scram!
I am sure anyways that it would have a 99% probability of being a scam!

You have been nominated by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to be considered in the selection of candidates for a one (1) year Engineering Design Training at the Shell Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) office in Port Harcourt.
The program is expected to run from 9th August 2010 to 29th July 2011.
You are required to confirm your availability to participate in the programme if you are eventually selected, by return email to me latest Thursday 5th August 2010.
It seems congratulations r in order so let me b the first to say congrats. I hav never heard of this program so like u, il be waiting on the house to help clarify.

@Ephisi... Congratulations are sure in order. However, wat are the terms and conditions of the offer? I hope there's high hope on Shell retaining u after the training. Also, are u being considered as staff-in-training?
Thanks guys. Honestly i dont know what its all about but i will let u guys know of latest developments. Im sure u are all aware of the local content bill. The bill gave birth to the local content board and monitoring commitee. so it is a new program in line with the Governments local content drive. I expect other companies to follow suit cos the FG is on their neck.

@ edon . Yes. The mail is from a shell domain. The guy says he,ll get back to me if im selected. Its obviously the effects of the new Local Content policy of the Federal Government.
@ephisi: Congrats but like I said before please proceed with caution. I am not trying to be pessimistic but i think these are the questions you should ask;
1) How did they get hold of your contact? Have you had previous dealings with Shell? I would guess so since you already wrote the SITP screening test.
2) Do you know of any other person who received such call/email?
3)Why notify you just now about a program that would commence in about some days time?
4) ...and like edonbizzle said, please confirm whether the mail was sent from a shell domain.

@ dexter you know how we nigerians do our things. Its certainly legit. Just praying to God thta im selected. All i know is that its the newly established Local Content Development and Monitoring Board that nominated me. It could be a Nigerdelta thing, Im not sure. cheers

@smartblackboy- well if u want to get into shell, if u know any shell staff in a particular location they can book u in, or those contract staff and contractor staff can also get in. I will gist u later about the SITP Graduate party.
@ephisi- I want to say a Big congrat to you, its the begining of many good things to come. Just be careful in case its a scam, u can give them a reply and follow up. There are many opportunities coming up for Engineers apart from SITP as i was told yesterday by a shell Direct Staff. Just be Prayerful and God will Help us all.
@All - The SITP guys today was fantastic and were looking pretty good on their black suit. Well They were called the Lucky ones but i think they are rather the fortunate ones.
There are 74 of them, 21 female and 53 male.
62 Engineers specialist and 12 Geo science specialist.
The last batch started 1st august 2009, will the next batch be 1 september 2010?
From all indication the 15th batch of SITP will commence soon, no specific date yet known to me, but i think email will start rolling in either tomorrow or from next week. The Program honestly is among the best in the world. No much tori, We will be there. More Prayer and Faith. Lets always have a positive mindset. God will do it for us. Cheers
Hey P4E! I was about coming to holla you about your findings but glad you came up just now. I really appreciate your positive attitude towards the present situation at hand compared to some gloomy posters we have in the house (no names though)..if only everyone here could be as positive as you.
Now my questions are: 1) Why did they call them the Lucky ones? God forbid, but are they planning to stop the SITP program? ???
2) Do you have any idea when the present set got the email inviting them for their medicals? That could give us an idea of when to expect the emails if they (Shell) still plans on resuming the next set by the 1st week of September.

@p4e - cud it hav been that happy a day for all of them? I was told by sum1 in this present set that they were only selecting a very small number of them as staff of shell. maybe 10 n that those that wud b chosen already had an idea of this. dunno how true that is tho.
Does any1 hav any info on this cos Ive always heard that not evry1 makes it thru SITP. Perhaps the top 10 n a few connected ones in each set? I know 2 ppl from sets past who hav done the SITP but not made it any father than that with Shell. Altho, it provided a platform for them and they hav both gone on to do great thins.

I think that idea of choosing only the top ten or so is no more valid, they had stopped that some years back from what i gathered. Now when you are taken for SITP, you are made a staff already and only need to pass the programme. As a matter of fact, you get paid like a staff even during the program, the people that fail are those that perform woefully...and one would wonder how they even made it there in the first place. ???
@ impish: I cannot even understand who this source who gave you that hilarious piece of information could possibly be. It has been years since shell dropped anyone who passes through SITP. That was ages ago.
This entire set have been given postings to departments and states where they will be working. They will ALL be going to PH next month for HR orientation after which they will ALL resume immediately. People wey don rent house finish na im you dey talk say wan commot.

true talk...the last person that told me about them not employing everybody they took on SITP did his own about '9 years' ago.The most recent i know of (2008 set) said that after the programme, you get absorbed into the system and u are paid a healthy sum monthly during the training.Quote:

@smartblackboy I guess the reason for the less number of pple for SITP in d last batch was because the was a lot of issues worrying shell and FG especailly in the niger delta region and also a financial recession in the world. So shell had to reduce their cost cos of business reasons. But thank GOD that all these issues have being resloved, so hopefully the number of pple will increase this time around.

Well, this week is over and still no news from Shell...let's keep our fingers crossed for next week.
