I learnt from a friend as well that the "company background information" they referred to was missing. I will suggest that you download all their end of year type reports and also play around with any other relevant files/information on their website.
Meanwhile, has anyone who received the SMS gotten the email yet now? I'm still waiting for mine too.
You would be giving the company background info on that day not before. You could just use case studies to prepare before then.
house, when do we get d contact details of our srd coordinator?
I have also not gotten the mail yet after the sms. I hope it's not an error. House pls those of u that have received the mail how long did it take u to receive it after getting the sms?
I rcvd sms, and i got my invite on sunday
Just to clarify, the case study is not on SHELL but on an imaginary company and you will be given on that day and asked questions based on what you have learnt from it. Like Steely said, the best way to prepare for it is to use case study on random topics to prepare.
@lix: what's your course of study?
@all: any Computer Engineer in the house that has received a mail following the sms?
I thought I saw somewhere here, someone say their date was 3rd oct, abi no be here? When are the first set of guys doing theirs?
@otika, did they give u guys contact details of ur srd coordinator?
Please those of you having your SRD early, can you kindly ask Shell personnel for the fate of those who are still shortlisted but got no invite yet? Thanks.
Just thinking.... For someone already working in d oil n gas industry, can he/she make a presentation on a successful job operation (which seems fresh in his/her memory & in the finger tips) or must it be strictly on final yr project/research work? Pls advice...
@ekenuelz, master how far na!
Got my invite today! Thank God - over a week after I received the text message.:)
StorckTL87: what is ur date?
StorckTL87:Congrats! what is ur date?
@Triple-C: Thank you bro!! ;) & Amen, may God bless You.
@ctrl07: Its for the 24th of October.
Congrats o, really happy for you.
Please for the commercial graduates in the house, what does "a get to know you meeting with the finance leadership meeting" mean? Is dis another kind of interview after SRD?
Pls, anyone with relevant info should pls reply. Thanks. All the best to all of you having ur SRD dis month.
Any news from SRD guys of 5th?
Hey, is dere anyone here who got d sms and has still nt gotten a mail? I studied mechanical engineering. It's almost 2 weeks dat I got d sms. I am kinda worried.
@gold
I have been trying to find out myself o. Its not been done before (so no one can really help us with information about how to prepare except God) but I hear the aim is to put invited people in departments.
I'm optimistic its great news as only 2 out of 7 of us in my batch got the invite, 2 out of 6 in my friend's batch also got invited. I saw the list of all commercial srd attendees when I signed the attendance and I was in the last 2 batches. There can't be so many people invited if they invited an average of 2 per batch. How many people in your batch got this invite,gold?
Let's trust God for perfection of everything!
I did mine of the 5th........assessors are not there to catch you out. Just think of it as an opportunity to show them ur skills. Pls know ur presentation very well. master every bit of it. For the group part make meaningful contribution and give odas the opportunity to air their thoughts and views.....lastly, be confident. I wish u all the very best and my prayer is that we all make it. Just enjoy the day and thank God for the opportunity.
@all, apologies I've been MIA for a while. Was out of town and without internet access.
A technical person (sorry, cant remember name) asked me to make enquiries about technical pple still awaiting invites - my SRD coordinator did not give me info and just gave me the line - "they will contact everyone when they are ready to"
I am not sure how many SRD tips have been circulated but I just want to give some advice for case study and group interview sections from my experience.
Case study
- try to link the identified issues obtained from the different scraps of information they give you to profitabillity. The main aim of any business is generating profit for its owners (shareholders). Try to mention that
-Shell has 5 main responsibilities - to shareholders, employees, customers, people they do business with (eg suppliers) and the society (environment, community etc) Try to mention this when explaining the issues you identify
-there are some irrelevant issues, try not to waste time on this as the financial statements are towards the end of the booklet they give you so try to scan through the booklet to get an idea of all issues presented
- i heard they like hearing the word prioritise so when I was called in, I started with something like 'All issues are important but I have decided to prioritise and I have identified issues that affect profitability directly or indirectly as my most important. Ensure you have a reason for your prioritisation.
-try to smile a lot. The interviewers are not HR people. They are trained line managers for different job areas. I faced 2 interviewers and one was a technical interviewer. They are trying to find people with CAR qualities they can see themselves working directly with so please smile---boeing kinda smile.
-pray, ask God for favor and do you best to prepare!
Good success to all SRD hopefuls in the house in Jesus name.
Group interview....hmmm, na God o
- for the small group meeting, ensure your partner contributes as well, say stuff like "great idea" etc when your partner says something you didn't think of
-try to volunteer yourself to do something immediately the main group meeting starts. You can volunteer to take down notes (eg minutes), you can suggest time allocations per group and volunteer to keep time for the meeting
-try to applaud any good initiatives other groups have suggested.
-Do not try to monopolise the discussion - this is a red flag i am told. Instead, if you notice you are monopolising the discussion, try to call people directly to contribute.
try to say stuff like "lets move forward', whats the way forward, we have to be mindful of time, let's talk one at a time etc when there's a deadlock (there will be a deadlock).
I noticed them taking down notes when all these were done. I hope this keeps someone.
We are all receiving our shell offer letters very very soon in Jesus name. Lets start thanking God!
all the best!
@opestar tnx mate
@opestar. Pls whats ur discipline and was d technical questions mainly around ur presentation? Or where u asked ur undergrad course question? Chunaf said he was asked physics and yr 1 and 2 questions. Was this so in your case? Is the case study readable in the time given? How is the press interview like? Lol. 21 questions I know. :)
Project presentation summary.... Should this be on the Appendix provided or on an A4 paper? Sent 2wks b4 SRD?
*Coughs* Errm...what about we that our staus still reads shortlisted and have not received any correspondence from shell.Any info on this?Any one?
