You have hot the nail on the head. However, they would also like to see how you worked with people and how you get help when you are stuck. Most of these things will be in the briefing package that will be sent to you with the invite. A good example will be to explain how you either asked a friend to help (eg with a mathematics software for ur own engineering project). they also want to see how you dealt with feedback (or if you asked for it if there was none). there is no rule stating your project has to be oil and has related. it would be advisable since they would bring a top gun in the field to be present at your interview. but if you do not have any project relating to the oil and gas, you have to make do with what you have.

also, for the in-tray exercise, think more as a team. you as the new plant manager will not know the answer to all things neither can you do it all by yourself. make gooduse of your subordinates, distribute tasks, form committees (nigerians like that anyways).

the same also applies for the group work. ensure you have a role you are playing in each case (there will be two cases). make a contribution. even if you have nothing to say, nominate yourself to keep decorum, maintain order or something. don't just nod your head and say 'I agree'.

Be confident and say what is in your mind. they will try as much as possible to destabilize you by making you think you are not saying enough. stick 'reasonably' to what you say and no when to say 'that is all I can think of'.
