Ptdf scholars thread

Hello Peeps,
Let's post any issues we are having with admissions, applications, accommodation, etc for 2012/2013 Ptdf scholars. As for me, I am having an issue with Imperial:

1. They insist on seeing my original WAEC certificate; I have refused to mail my originals to them as i consider that too damn risky! I already sent a scanned copy to them
2. They also insist on a fee deposit (10% of fees) payable within 28 days:o: I have 20 days left to pay....:confused:
3. i applied for accommodation and even that needs a 500 pounds deposit

Any one else applied to Imperial having these constraints? Any advice?

what course are u applying for? just contact wariso. dont send urcredentials. just scan it and send.

@aliceinwonderland if u hav applied to imperial,all u need do is to fill the form on the ptdf site and let Mr Wariso do the rest,i did that and he replied me telling me that imperial told him that 1 of my refs.was yet to reply.
I also hav a quest.4 those that applied to imperial,is there anyway one can change his/her ref.after submitting an application and was any imperial applicant able to log into the student account section? A prompt response will b appreciated

Imperial gurus i hail una......me im heading to cranfield....my course requires ATAS clearance....im still @dat stage now....though ive applied for accomodation...nd ive also updated my status on ptdf's site.......my main problem now is dat d school has not sent my CAS number yet dats all...nd i hope ptdf has contacted the school too.

@ Sallymos, what course do you wanna do that you can't do at any other sterling universities like UCL, Bristol, Queen Marry, Bath, Duham, York? Except it is gas turbine course sha. Yes, Cranfield is a quality school but it will just seem you are still in naija o as you are only confined to village area. You won't find any social life. 98% of there students are guys and there are no undergraduate students. You will like it if you are the book man all the way. Just think about it

Yakmut, Yes i have logged into Imperial student account. Whats d issue? I tink u can change your referee. Check the website for a Phone number for the appropriate admissions team. Engineering is +442075947243. Explain your issue

@ sallymos, what course are you coming to study in cranfield.

Most guys come to cranfield to study subsea engr , process engr and thermal power.

@aliceinwonderland, thanks a million i just changed my ref.will call them ASAP, u dont need to mail Mr.Wariso if u fill the online form and submit, PTDF will take it from there, but did u have to call them to be able to access your student account section or u wer able to activate and login without any issues?

I applied for offshore engineering.......funny enuf i am surprised hw alicein wonderland could apply for peteng u know...im surprised...cos those ptdf mails i recieved hve been so specific about applying for courses on their website or else u stand to forfeit your scholarship...alice chk dat list 2 be sure thres peteng on dat list cos i didnt see it myself else i would have done that myself...as regards cranfield being a lonely place men dats wat i heard too....i also placed my newcastle admission on their website so anyone thy work on would be thier palava....i am not spending money 2 get diz...its govt money let dem spend it.......

@Sallymos. Life isn't like that o. Don't be so indifferent about were you go to. Its one year bro. I really liked the way u were just happy when u got the scholarship. Newcastle offshore is not fully organised yet but u will like the environment. Cranfield offshore? A lot of their graduates are so full of complaints. The course work is rushed and finishes by December and their lecturers are very reserved with marks.

If I were you, I will sharply applied to Liverpool John Moores university. Marine and offshore Engineering(MSc). That is a double related qualification that can take u round the globe in maritime , logistics, structures and oil and gas platform. They have very professional and have been delivery this course since 1823. Give PTDF what you have. They really don't care as long is oil and gas related. In fact, the northern people may not have started applying at that and some may even go to electrical engineering. just wait for the induction and see. The choice is eventually yours to make. Yes phoneline ive heard different versions.....but Ljmu is definitely a first...besides ptdf iz already on my neck 2 update on their website and i only hve diz two cranfield nd newcastle.....another of my option iz heriot watt peteng wich i hve already nd hve also posted on their website....

I am currently on the MSc welding engineering course in cranfield. All i can say is cranfield has got lots of industrial collaboration. Most of the project and even group project done involve solving industrial problems. I recently had to help a friend on the subsea engr MSc course in Newcastle with project topics from the offshore subsea course in cranfield. My friend told me their tutor had asked them to look for topics themselves which i found ridiculous. That only suggest the lack of research done in that sch. One of the things you will benefit from here in cranfiled is the enormous research being carried out. And you know what that means? Opportunity for jobs, further to Phd etc. I am talking from experience of the previous sets and perhaps myself. The choice is yours!

how ca one contact wariso? some school require part payment to make the offer unconditional...like glamorgan and henriot watt.. how long does it take ptdf to contact them...cos the school is singing pay first ..pay first..

I'm having Edingburgh napier,sheffield,leeds unconditional admission, bt I'm going for university of sheffield(environmental engrg) bt they are telling me to tell wariso to contact them b4 issuing CAS. Beside this ATAS seems too slow 20days?

ATAS IS SLOW KE......me i havent applied for the ATAS because i dont know which school PTDF has paid 2...YET.they dont even mail me again since i updated my details with them.thanks lekanispa,ur advise is timely.

the so called ATAS website is not allowing for updating educational records why is dat?

Fellow scholars, I need clarification on ATAS clearance please. I applied to Manchester for Maintenance Eng'g & Asset Mgt. and they didnt mention ATAS as a requirement. Do all courses offered in UK universities need ATAS for provision of admission? I need you advice please.

Ok. Let's lay this ATAS thingy to rest. ATAS is actually a method for the UK people to know if your course is related to the proliferation of weapon of mass destruction. If it is, wheather it is an appoved school for it.

To this end, The Uk border( The ATAS session) would want to know all the details about you and your school. That is why is it important for you to:
1. List all the module taken in the course you are to read
2. Write your full name without initials
3. Your referee's names should also be written in full. No initials please
4. Go through the form after filling to ascertain its correctness.

ATAS are funny people. If anything is wrong with yur form, they won't notify you. They will wait till 21days to say ur form wasn't correct and you have to apply all over again. So becareful.

@ Sallymos. You can apply for yor ATAS in more than one school. You would notice wile filling the form, they would ask you if you are only going to apply once? Make sure you don't close ur appliction on that note.

Moreso, PTDF do not pay school just like that. Do they even know if embassy would give youstudy visa? They acyually pay months after( like 6 months) after you have started ur course. There are cases were student were thrown out or close to be thrown out for their sponsor' non payment of school and accommodation fees, including PTDF.

@ WINDOWS7 , If ATAS wasn't measure, then you certainly don't need one. If I were you, I would write the admission office a letter just to confirm if ATAS was needed for your study course. That would be more appopriate. Goodluck to you all

I originally applied for Advanced Controls Engrg, but during the PTDF test, I wrote Energy Systems Engrg and I was successful. The school PTDF recommends is Univ. of Glamorgan, Wales. I'm not excited about that school, though I applied sha. Now waiting for their admission offer.

I also have admission in Manchester for Advanced Controls [which is a PTDF course at a recommended university], but I never get CAS number from them.

The course I really wanna do is Electrical and Renewable Energy Engrg at Univ of Leeds. That's the course I submitted to the PTDF website [and they've already given me CAS number]. But I'm worried that PTDF will not approve of the course as an Oil&Gas related field.

We shd rename this thread "The dilemmas of a PTDF scholar"

Guy just shut up, you dont know a thing about Newcastle Univ. What do you know about research? becos PTDF giv you oshe free, u don dey open your stupid- mouth talk rubbish. Cranfield got its style and Newcastle their's too so keep ur ignorance to urself.

view these courses for youself from newcastle for offshore engineering.........it surpasses that of cranfield by far........

i tried imperial and they told me environmental engineering is filled up..please did any one get such response..

@yakmut i applied for the same. checked on the student's portal nd saw unsucessful. but i pretended not to have seen it until they broke my heart this morning after i sent them a mail to confirm my application status. it was spelt out>>>u were not sucessful.

OMG! @bigdaddie hardluck,make i quicly check my own status oh,just pray that it is for good,its not 2late 2 apply to leeds 4 environmental eng'ng & project mgt.i got my unconditional offer in 2wks,infact i got a conditional offer in 3days. all the best

@yakmut, did u send the hard copy of ur reference letter to Leeds, the condition of my offer is reference letter n they are telling me dat they don't want scanned or photocopies

@kunlenxy YES i sent hardcopies of filled ref.forms d@ was sealed & stamped in envelopes,it got 2dem in less than 2wks,dey confirmed it & changed it 2 an unconditional offer,

PTDF will accept any reasonable course that is related to the oil and gas industry. Mine is not very related to the oil and gas industry and I am about to finish my masters :)
