Job description
- The Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical activities in developing the mechanical design within project budget and determining timing for resource requirements. Serves as the liaison for inter-discipline engineering involved in the project and is accountable for overall discipline related activities for the successful completion of project, on schedule and within manpower and budget estimates.
- Principal Mechanical Engineer will report to the Lead Engineer / Project Engineering Manager
Responsibilities
- Technically responsible for all mechanical engineering work and allocating, supervising and directing preparation of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will delegate some level of supervision and specific checking activities to appropriate competent personnel.
- Participates in multi-discipline Engineering Design Reviews and provides all necessary mechanical engineering input and support to close out of actions.
- Consults Quality Assurance with any quality issues ensuring compliance with organisation’s ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures. Co-ordinates Internal and client audit requests and facilitates audit procedures of engineering systems within the department. Complying with other accredited frameworks such as ISO 14001.
- Reviews the Invitation to Bid documents submitted in the proposals stage prepare man-hour estimates and provide input to project execution plan
- Either a Lead Engineer on a project, or reporting to the Lead Engineer typically on larger projects, execute civil/structural engineering design activities for feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC projects.
- Responsible for all civil/structural engineering work and allocating, supervising and directing preparation of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will delegate some level of supervision and specific checking activities to appropriate competent personnel.
- Supervises reviews and checks the civil/structural activities including: Philosophies, Specifications, Civil & Structural Design Calculations, Plans, Drawings and MTO. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/ contract by raising technical queries with projects / client.
- Participates in Factory Acceptance Test’s.
- Ensures compatibility and conformance with client specifications and recommends cost effective improvements to specifications within the scope of client specifications and requirements.
- Participates in multi-discipline Engineering Design Reviews and provides all necessary civil/structural engineering input and support to close out of actions.
- Capable of formulating resolutions and supervision of technically challenging and/or high profile issues, with support from Consultant Civil/Structural Engineer/ Lead Engineer or Project Engineering Manager, and effectively communicating with Clients and Senior Management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must have a B.sc in Mechanical Engineering. MBA will be an added advantage.
- 10 years of related experience working for Engineering/Client organisations in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Membership of COREN is preferred
- Exposure to Consultancy, FEED/ Detailed Design and EPC projects.
- In depth knowledge of standard international specifications and codes.
- Knowledge of Safety and Quality procedures.
- Knowledge of international equipment specifications and codes.
- Ability to meet schedules and deadlines
