The thread is interesting, seeing you have turned the whole show to a cyber warfront of words; throwing tantrums at one another. It makes me really wonder how old many of you are. If you are above 35, you are protesting too late. If you are below , you know what to do but going it the wrong way.Read, and I'll tell you. At thirty-five, you don't have a job?! What have you been doing for heaven's sake?! Maybe you need to wait for another 35yrs.,then they'll employ you in the company of your dream. Wake up! Do something for your self. And doing something for yourself does not fall in line with the proposed protest. For even if it sails through, it 'may' not favour you. No self development?!
If you are below, your exuberance is eating up your sense of reasoning! You believe the government must give you a job. Don't begin to tell me you have something up in the head but 'capital' issue, then forgive me, you are not ready. Government is not designed to give jobs, the law of economics/economy will not allow it to work.
@emergency, we all feel the pangs of unemployment. Your venomous tone of approach to this issue is not helping you. At one breadth, your apologetic friends are saying peaceful demonstration, then from nowhere at another length, your vitreolic responses present the contrary.
Now tell me; when you get to Aso rock (come october 1st or 24th), that's if you are really able to get to 'Aso rock', what will you tell GEJ? ..."You must collect our cvs and give us jobs. And perhaps put ultimatum. And then, GEJ will really get so scared and and say to minister of labour and productivity "please collect these peoples' cvs and give them jobs oo, pls I don't want wahala oo.' Right? lol. Man wake up. America, the world leading economy and China have their own shares of unemployment bite. Unemployment is a lesser evil than when you are not pro-active about your own development. It is criminal. Yes criminal!!! You want to carry guns at the end of the day and kill our loved ones?! For it is obvious you will not easily hit your "targets" ,vis-a-vis the 'Bank'-'Oles'.
Protest is good but definitely not the way you are going it. Protest of this nature needs the backing of strong agencies and other pressure groups. I just can't hold myself back from reiterating this. Otherwise, the whole thing boils down to mockery of inteligence. All the same, one love!
Nigeria is bad, so many say, that means you are all bad. One bad apple does not make the lot maggot ridden. Nigeria is good, and that is because we have you and me fashioning ways to tackle out problem while not bringing her down to her knees. Employment may be blocked but not your intelligence! You'll never know how far you can go in life, unlocking that great potentials in you,...until you try.
I can see that people are not organized here, I asked for +ve suggestion on the way forward, yet nobody can say any useful thing that will encourage someone. I cannot work with a disorganized team. Most of you wants to be a leader, yet U pay attention to mere write ups and pour insults on youselves as if na una know gramma pass (abi na dat one dey give job?), probably later in your CV, you will now put "good leadership qualities". I have tried to curb this situation, yet you people are still into it. The funny thing is that about 95% of you people have never seen each others face for the first time, yet all these are happening. Well just to let the house know that I am out of this and I am no longer interested, until I see a character reformation here and a good sence of maturity, like the graduates we are. This is so annoying when I see graduates behaving like this. Let everybody go and pray, for you people's notice, there was never a time I advocated for violence, rather I always mention a PEACEFUL protest. I have more important things to attend to, take care and 9ce day
@iyke_jigga...ur positive impact on dis thread is so invaluble, we cant afford to let u go, u hav made it with us dis far to throw it all away, its just dat dere are bad people tryin to tear us apart.. we are sincerely sorry. we shall remain undistracted. we guarantee u.
I've been out for quite a while now attending to some other business. Actually, I've been thinking, assuming we are house of reps members or senators deliberating oh issues like this and we are acting like this towards each other; Men !!, what would the citizens and other countries think of us? It now hit me that we need to change our attitude towards each other and on that note i wish to apologize for any truly offensive action on my part towards anybody and advice that people should respectfully present their own opinion.
My reasons for supporting this protest (if peaceful) relies more on the future of this country than the present one, especially with our history and the recent happenings.
Militants didn't protest maybe because they've been crying to their community leaders or scared of facing firing squad from our not well trained police or military but their action almost put an end to earnings of this country and their voice was heard.
Boko haram for whatsoever reason didn't protest. Their actions almost put the whole security of the nation in jeopardy. Na our government dey go meet them to negotiate.
Graduates may not protest but as millions are pumped into this country annually and watch very few of their colleague get employed without as much as sweat leaving the bulk majority on their own. Millions travel long distances once or twice in a month to write test/interview for position opened for 5-10 people. Some of them borrow money for scratch cards (army. navy, NDLEA etc) only for their name not to appear or replaced by others (customs) who did not even apply. Some after being considered suitable for test were forced to write with touches and candles, instead of coming out to say that the positions is only open for their relatives and few, the government officials(NNPC) only results to insult them by saying that they are dummies etc. Some are even kicked out of their working places and treat as dirt because of no job security. I just wonder with some few revelations on this thread what they are up to after watching government who promised to create employment opportunities (direct or indirect) for them by building more refineries, fertilizer plant, ethanol plant, liberate power sector for more investors to come in etc, only for them to reverse back to importing petroleum products and paying subsidy on them for their benefits, continue with their so called constructing of more power plant and open up more agencies/ministries for their friends and relatives (dem no dey employ oo). I just pray that their action will not be worse than militants and boko haram because even if they are dumb, clowns or AY show partners they really knew how to get attention from Nigerian government.
So I urge you, before you pass your judgment consider this, if this people cannot get to government because of escort, firing squad, tear gas, who do you think they will turn to?
However, as you drive down that crooked road with that your fine car you so much worked for to earn, enjoy that powerful AC at your office after managing to secure that appointment or the one that your godfather gave to you, enjoy that company you so much invested your energy to set up or the one your Popsi left for you to manage, peform those transactions you do in your shop, your recharge card or herbal medicine stand, manage that your ministry(church) etc. Are you save with them roaming the street in hunger looking for something to do? Even if you are, what of your kids at school? It is only a foolish man who thinks that it is well because he is successful and the rest of his community is dying in penury.
Finally, i appeal to you my people let us not see this as a means of sabotaging or revolting against the present administration. Do not think that this will take away that position or comfortable situation you found yourself in. Our silence only means they are doing the right thing. Few people cannot accomplish this movement but believe me even their voice is not heard in this manner they will definitely cry out. How and when? Time will tell.
I REST MY CASE.
@nnamdo4u..u said it all but most people on this thread keep allowing themselves get distracted instead of focusing and forging the way ahead.
@e-diamond, in as much as i agree wit u 2 a reasonable extent, i‘ll also lyk 2 remind u dat stagin a youthful protest goes beyond givin GEJ ur cv, its simply 2 implore d govt to create d enablin environment for employment to thrive, wich ofcos is not beyond dier capability. Discoverin ur potentials is one thing but d enablin environs for it to thrive is anoda nd very vital. Enuf of d exchange of words cos it‘ll all lead to nufin but 2 bring d whole idea 2 a brickwall. D way forward, plsss...
Guy will realy need to act fast on dis matter enough is enough.
It is a fact that government can not employ all of us. What we need is a private sector driven economy. The role of the government should be provision of infrastructure, regulation e.t.c and not venturing into business which will fail due to endemic corruption. Other factors that lead us to where we are today apart from corruption and bad leadership include:
1. Lack of true federalism. We run a unitary system disguised as federalism.
2. Education without purpose. We continue to graduate theorists instead of pragmatists. A developing country like ours should lay more emphasis on technical and vocational education. We need to train more craftsmen, technicians and technologists. Instead we train scientists, who don't contribute to existing scientific knowledge, in large numbers! To what extent have we applied existing scientific knowledge? We also train a lot of engineers who can't design and churn out Administrators and Managers in large numbers instead of enterpreneurs. Unless we overhaul our educational system, things will only get worse.
3. The pandemic nature of our materialism. We believe money is everything and it's only the rich that deserves respect. This has affected our psyche, choice of what to do with our lives and almost everything about us.
4. Tribalism and religious bigotry.
5. Other factors too numerous to list. It is not a surprise that we are where we are today. We 'worked hard' for it.
Now what's the way forward based on the aim of the person who opened this thread:
We need to protest but peacefully.
Our protest should go with a demand which the government must meet urgently. Personally, I think what we need to demand in our protest is not that the government should employ all of us or they should create enabling enviroment(they are already doing that). Our demand should be the immediate passage of 'SOCIAL SECURITY AND WELFARE BILL' and a subsequent protest will follow for its implementation after passage. The bill should oblige government to pay unemployment benefits to those who are qualified and willing to work but can't find job. If passed and implemented, it will make the government more responsible in their efforts in fighting unemployment. If you have to pay me wether I'm working or not, you will ensure I work before I earn! NLC did it for minimum wage, we can also do it. With this kind of demand, we'll get support easily from NGO's and human right groups. What do you think?
The quest for better living conditions and equal opportunities for Nigeria graduates.., is that too much to ask for? its a pity
Hey rikkyjnr, I feel you. I only wish the originator of the thread could say it passionately the way you have said it. Read through all his comments (none excluded) you will agree with me that they don't sound like yours. While yours is passionately appealing, his temperamentally vitreolics, so militants on the thread. i didn't fail to commend him for rising to the fore against unemployment but the manner of it was what I faulted.
And let it also be noted that there is nothing he would say that Nigerians have not said. The process of change is gradual (many of us hate that word), but it is the truth. I do not know of any enabling environment that we need now that we have not cried out for before now. does it really mean thatif we don't see the enabling environment we will not do anything for ourselves. I guess not. That would have been disastrously parochial. If you are waiting for things to get better before launching into limelight, I perceive you'll have to wait forever. Things don't get better, people do. For things to get better, you must first get better. and getting better, you should know your stuff. One BIG LOVE. cheers!!
