LETTER TO NORTHERNERS: It is with great concern and a deep sense of patriotism that I write to you today on the security situations in your area. You have a duty to assist security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property in the North. These security agencies in uniform and mufti, are not magicians. Their efficiency depends on the degree of information available to them and intelligence gathering methodology. You cannot claim you dont know who and who are these guys you call Boko Haram. You cannot convince us you dont know where and when they hold meetings to plan and prepare for attacks. They are your people. They are your children. They live in your midst. You know where they run to after every attack. You talk to them and they talk to you and you understand one another. Why must you allow your area to be turned to a warfront? Why should you keep sealed lips while precious blood of the innocent water the soils of Northern Nigeria? Why should you be accomplices in the destruction and desecration of your land? No development thrives in an atmosphere of chaos and uncertainties. Who is Abdu Qada, Kabiru Umar aka Sokoto, Abubakar Shekau etc? They are not from the West, they are not from the South-South, neither are they from the East. They are Northerners. They are your people. You know them. You know their houses. You know their parents. You know where they hide and talk to the world, yet you dont want to make any disclosures . You prefer the massacre of the innocent and devastation of the North to exposing evil. Just know it that you are the ones losing. At the end of it all, you will have alot of rebuildings to do. We know what it took us to rebuild the ruins your fathers and grandfathers left for us in the East after 30 months of cathastrophic and cataclysmic civil war. If you like continue eulogising Qada, Shekau and Kabiru as your heroes. If you like provide safe havens for them. Go ahead and pretend you dont know them. Move Kabiru from one location to the other to escape being located, blame President Goodluck Jonathan for all atrocities of the Bokos, call him names; abuse him, insult him, deride him, call him a woman, arm your youths to cause more carnage and tell them to say they are fighting a jihad. At the end you are the ones at the receiving end. It was the late President Yar' Adua,your own brother and son, who ordered the operation that consummed the Boko leader in 2009, not President Jonathan. Yet you didnt do anything because of the sentiment of brotherhood. If another Northerner had succeeded Yar' Adua as President, would Boko Haram have been resurrected? But because it is Jonathan, you re-created Boko Haram and gave it fresh breath to discredit Mr President, hit up the polity and make the nation ungovernable. If you cause the disintegration of this country, you will lose and your grand-children will never forgive you because your survival as a region and a geopolitical zone has always depended on the South. The end of Boko Haram is in your hands. The continuation of hostilities in the North by Boko Haram is also in your hands. The West, South-South and the East didnt create Boko Haram. It is your own creation. So, you know best how to deal with it.

Atleast, they have been smoked out several times in Makurdi, which is why till now no successful strike...yet sha. If the natives dont hide dem, they will have no place to hide. Boko Haram killed 935 since 2009 – HRW

Email2 LAGOS (AFP) – Attacks by Islamist group Boko Haram have killed at least 935 people since the sect launched a violent campaign in 2009, including 250 this year alone, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday.
“More than 935 people have been killed in some 164 suspected attacks” since Boko Haram launched its campaign of shooting and bomb attacks in July 2009, the New York-based global rights group.
“In the first three weeks of January 2012 alone, more than 253 people have been killed in 21 separate attacks,” it said.
It said 185 police and residents were killed in coordinated attacks targeting mainly police stations in Kano — the country’s second largest city — on January 20, Boko Haram’s deadliest single operation.
The rights group urged the Nigerian authoritities to put a stop to “this campaign of terror and bring to justice those responsible for planning and carrying out these reprehensible crimes.”
“Boko Haram’s attacks show a complete and utter disregard for human life,” said Corinne Dufka, HRW’s West Africa researcher.

SSS Reveals "SMS Threat Syndicate" Masquerading As Boko Haram

The state security services issued the statement below regarding several syndicate it claimed were behind sms threat messages to some prominent Nigerian politicians:
Recall that on 2nd November, 2011, the Service in a press release informed that two (2) secondary school students in Niger State had been apprehended for sending false threat messages of purported plans by Boko Haram to attack the Presidential Villa and National Assembly on 28th October, 2011.
2. On 14th November, 2011, Government had assured the public that the activities of such syndicates that specialize in sending threat text messages to members of the pubic, including key Government officials, foreign embassies, and other strategic corporations in the country will be quashed.
3. Against this backdrop, the Service would again like to draw the attention of the public to the criminal and subversive intents of devious elements who threaten unsuspecting individuals, organizations and groups for fraudulent purposes: Accordingly, we wish to inform Nigerians
that a major breakthrough has been recorded as members of four (4) groups of criminal syndicates engaged in this trend were recently arrested.
Highlights of the activities of each of the syndicates are:
SYNDICATE I
4. The group is made up of four (4) members namely, Stanley OCHUWA, Emmanuel Ogbonna CHINONYEREM, Onyedikachi AKPASUE, and Mathias AKUEGBO.
They operated from Suleja in Niger State and Zuba, FCT, under the code names Col. MURPHY, Col. ADAMS, Col. MORDI, and Engr. Emma NWACHUKWU.
Their sole intent was to instill fear and cause panic with the aim of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, with text messages like "Someone wants me to assassinate
you, but I will spare your life if you pay a ransom to my Intercontinental Bank account". Amongst the GSM lines used during their criminal exploits are: 08033832929 and 07038867338. They claimed that telephone numbers of their victims were often obtained from refuse dumps of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), memos, correspondents, complimentary cards, and the internet. Many highly placed Nigerians have been victims of the syndicate.

SYNDICA TE 11
5. This cell was operated from Kaduna by Haruna Alhaji HASSA~ whose operational name was Alhaji Madu GANA, purported Secretary of Boko Haram. He had threatened a former Governor now a serving Senator, a Federal Permanent Secretary, a political party woman leader in Maiduguri, another Senator and a Bauchi State Party Chairman. He threatened them to donate money for the propagation of Islam or risk being bombed. He received various sums of money ranging from N30,000 to N100, 000 through a Union Bank account. One of such threat text
messages read: "We are still aware with you we will soon get back to you Isha Allah expect us". He used GSM No. 08052611833, for his nefarious activities.

6. Maurice Efe LAWRENCE, an indigene of Delta State, operated this cell from Calabar, Cross River State. He had widely circulated text messages through three (3) GSM Nos: 08100428701, 08080468686, and 070383912813 on plans by his syndicate to attack or bomb some cities in
Nigeria. On his hit list were) Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Port Harcourt, Jos, Kaisina, Damaturu, Maiduquri, Lagos, Dutse and Akure.
On 9th November, 2011, he sent a text message to a senior Director in the Ministry of Information. Its reads: "A bomb attack is to take place on Friday and 1 have every detail even if you don't want to involve send me number of any SA or PA to Information Minister". He also
claimed in some of the text messages to have information on plans to assassinate a Governorship candidate in Kogi State, and an armed robbery incident in Ondo State. He has telephone numbers of some prominent politicians, public servants and private individuals which he claimed he got from the internet and which he also used to defraud unsuspecting victims.
SYNDICA TE IV
7. Chinwendu JOSIAH, an indigene of Imo State worked in a cyber cafe in Benin City. He it was that sent emails to foreign embassies that caused panic and anxiety which led to the travel alert issued during the Eid-el- Kabir celebrations. The threat messages were sent through the following email addresses which contained a cloned GSM no: 081881916038, which he used for the scam and intent to extort money from his victims. The email addresses are:

Below is the full text of some of the messages sent:
i."WE ARE BOKO HARAM, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU"
ii. "THE BROTHERHOOD REMAINS ONE INDIVISIBLE
ENTITY. THERE IS NO SPLIT AND THERE IS NO SPLINTER
GROUP. STORIES OF SPLIT ARE TISSUES OF LIES BY
THE STATE SECURITY SERVICE TO DISCREDIT US. CALL
ON ALL TRUE FAITHFULS WHO BELIEVE IN OUR CAUSE
TO JOIN US BY ENLISTING AS A FOLLOWER AND BECOME
A MEMBER OF THE BROTHERHOOD IN OUR SITE"
8. He has confessed to the crime and disclosed further that he has been involved in internet scam since 1998. To him, exploiting terrorist threats became an attractive option he could not resist.
CONCLUSION
9. The Service wishes to reiterate its earlier position that some unscrupulous, unpatriotic and criminal elements have capitalized on issues of national security interest to exploit, threaten and stir apprehension amongst members of the public. It is glaring that improper disposal of official and personal documents also provide another avenue with which these fraudsters exploit Nigerians. Hence the need for the public to be circumspect on how personal, official documents or issues are handled.
10. We hereby assure Nigerians as well as foreign nationals that the Service and other security agencies have emplaced measures which are progressively improving national security and the protection of lives and property. We therefore call on all to continue to cooperate with law
enforcement agencies as we Jointly combat the various security challenges confronting our nation.

Guys! Pls this is not a forum to discuss about Boko Haram. Let's focus on our cause! I've taken the bull by the horn to prepare a case write-up on our behalf. Here is my draft, pls make your comments and additions and we shall decide by what means to publish it:

NNPC AND THE BANE OF TRANSFORMATION

As we enter into a new phase in the clean-up of the nation's oil and gas industry, which remains in the foreseeable future the back-bone of our nation's economy, it is import to note some salient issues attendant to the transformation that we seek as a nation in the oil and gas industry. These pertinent issues, like the on-going fuel subsidy probe, are not only essential for the growth of the sector and for attracting new investments, it will also create more jobs for our unemployed.

The recent events following the fuel subsidy removal has not only unraveled the corrupt dealings and weaknesses of the nation's oil and gas sector, but it has also brought to the front-burners the need to transform the sector sooner than later. No wonder the much debated Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) is now open for a speedy passage with the inauguration of a PIB Task Force by the Minister of Petroleum Resources. One of the prominent changes the PIB will bring is the incorporated Joint Ventures (IJVs), as viable companies with their a degree of autonomy to operate NNPC's JV portfolios. The gas sector shall also be de-bottlenecked, freeing up more gas for power generation projects, thereby reducing gas flaring.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is and shall remain a cornerstone of Nigeria's oil and gas industry, as a regulator and player in a clean and transparent industry. The changes that are anticipated are however meant to sanitize and not to destroy our collective heritage. For without a strong regulator, the industry shall become a football field without a referee. Therefore, it is important we appreciate the essential role played by NNPC and it's subsidiaries in providing an enabling and regulated environment to do business in both the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry.

This transformation must begin with the human capital. It therefore means that corrupt officials be shown the way out and new ones brought in. Nigeria is blessed abundantly blessed with human resources and we should tap into this to actualize this goal. This requires bringing in both new, qualified and experienced minds as well as training and equipping them to lead the transformation process, as the NNPC is obviously understaffed. The last concluded recruitment process was in 2006. Six years now, the corporation is yet to call new hands through the nationwide recruitment process.

It is worthy of note that the NNPC has in 2008 started a recruitment process, which was later botched. Another recruitment process was started in 2010 and up till date, successful candidates are yet to be called to resume duties. It is sad that in a nation where jobs are most needed and available avenues for job creation are not utilized. There is no better time than now for the NNPC to conclude the current recruitment process. It shall therefore be left with ample time to train and equip the new intakes properly for the task ahead, as the cleanup process continues.

Recently, the President recently directed all government ministries, parastatals and agencies with pending recruitments to conclude same, but this directive is yet to be followed to the later by the NNPC. With the huge resources already expended by the corporation on two consecutive nationwide recruitments, there is no justification for the continued delay in the release of the results of the last recruitment/interviews successful candidates issued appointment letters.
