Hello Forumites, I am in a dilemma at the moment and thought I should share it with the house. I have just recently secured a role with Nigerian Breweries as a Trainee Brewer and another mouth-watering role with Standard Chartered bank in their International Graduate Programme. I studied Chemical Engineering. The standard chartered IGP pays about 4 times what NB pays. Your sincere advice is solicited...
my broda congrats first,if u are ready to pursue n be grounded in ur discipline lyk me then NB is ur destination but if u are afta money then u can resume wit stanbic first thing monday mornin...but believe afta d trainnin wif nbl u will definitely smile.
I would av suggested Nigerian Breweries being a Chemical Engineering graduate. Also, the company is not a bad place to work but the "times 4" pay in Standard Chartered is tempting mhen!
I really understand d dilemma cos it's really confusing. NB gives u the room to grow as an Engineer especially in terms of developing your engineering skills, so if u r the type dat has a strong passion 4 engineering just like me, u'll b tempted to stay. On the other side, StanChart is a world class bank dat gives u international exposure with a very conducive environment to work. No jackie work as obtained in engineering with big time exposure to banking. This is also a good one especially if u r d type dat likes efizzy.
Final answer, Standard Chartered cos it's all about the Benjamin!

its not about money.many engineering graduates guys that work in d bank are not that always happy after all.Look beyond ur training.Think about global melt down that might occur again.My brother even if standard chartered pays u 750k,its a small money,why? because u just graduated from school and u have not seen money period.When u start working u will now be exposed to d world.GO FOR BREWERIES

Take Standard Chartered. Its an uncommon opportunity you just got with a bank that rarely give offers because of competitiveness and standard. Don't let it slip away, congratulation... Friend, you can build an enviable career with this bank as an engineer. Banking is not entirely financial, they need you to manage the portfolio from their oil and gas clients or businesses, their training is international (mind you this is not one of our Nigerian brothers bank) and their pay is out of this world with job security. What else do you want? Well, the ball is in your court!

My brother, its the Lord's doing. My season is now. The forman M.D of FinBank is a 1st class graduate of Engineering. He built a career in finance nd accounting with KPMG. Banking cuts across all sectors. I think by now u should av a clue of what u want. Ur Age should be a key decision factor. Above all, what witness has God drop in ur heart. CONGRATS...

So sure that u must hav made up ur mind, wat u only need is someone to support u....lol. Dont consider money in making choices in life, i agree its good, what matters most is fulfilment. Let both JD's be your determining factor.

Congrat bro..the simple fact is u can't compare standard chartered to NB its like plantain chips and kpekeray..do the maths now ur 3months salary at StandardC is 1year at NB...so grab the standard chartered with both hands and legs beside ur career growth will be uniform at both coy...

They are both good companies whichever choice you make depends on your future aspiration in life. Whatever happens just make the best out of the choice you make.

I am a chemical engineer and has had working experience in oil coys and I can tell you that no company can boost of the kind of pay big boys receive in oil company all you need to get started is the experience first. As for me I rebuke you going for second slavely which is what the bank stands for,yes you got the pay from bank but no time to spend it,think of your family and upcoming children,where is the time to spend with them.That you are starting with Nigerian breweries does not mean you will end with them,after all chevron pays 1.5 million as starting package to 2-4 yrs experience intake. Aquire all your banking experience but you can hadly be governor of CBN,Finance minister,Economic minister because descrimination must set in.Those who has held this potifolior in the past and present check their biography.If you waste your time in bank,then the worst has hapned, you cant sit among great economics or even engineers.May God guide you.
