2012/2013 ptdf scholarship scheme
I am surprised to find this on the PTDF site. This is quite early. Cheers.
OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME:OVERVIEW
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by Decree 25 of 1973 dedicated for the purpose of development, promotion and implementation of petroleum technology and manpower development through research and training of Nigerians as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the fields of engineering, geology, geosciences, management, economics and relevant fields in the petroleum and solid minerals industry in Nigeria or abroad.
Our mission is to train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria or abroad. We have a vision to serve not only as a vessel for the development of indigenous manpower and technology transfer/acquisition in the petroleum industry but also to make Nigeria a human resource centre for the West African sub-region.
To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the MSc and PhD as well as Undergraduate Scholarships, under the 2012/2013 PTDF Scholarship Scheme. Scholarships will be awarded for studies in areas listed below, in the United Kingdom, France and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2012/2013 session. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only.
Application Forms can be accessed online using an ATM card or through purchase of a scratch card from designated major branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc in all the States and FCT, upon payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Instructions on how to access the form online is clearly stated on the backside of the cards.
PTDF however wishes to inform applicants that the Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. With the numerous upgrade programmes executed by the Fund in some Federal Universities in Nigeria, emphasis has shifted to training Nigerians in-country. Consequently, only a limited number of candidates will be sponsored overseas and the rest in Nigerian Universities listed below.

You don't have to wait till your service is over, you can just apply, if you need to upload your discharge certificate while applying, upload your scan of call up letter which means you are already entitled to a certificate. A friend of mine after finishing his service after a year came to meet me, and I asked him why he didn't apply for the last PTDF scholarship, he said he didn't have a discharge certificate. He forgot that if he wins the award, his certificate would be ready before then. Just be sure your discharge certificate is ready before September/october.
As at when I applied I didn't have my certificate ready, and I was shorlisted for the exam. Same for a friend of mine, she was also shortlisted and she got the award, of course before the award date her discharge certificate was already ready.
The Main thing is to be shortlisted for the exam and to pass the exam.
The PTDF has got some stringent rules if you read the requirements, some of those rules were not feasible, but understanding the flexibility is the Key.
Cheers.

Of course it is not feasible, to secure admission PhD in 20 days.
The oral interview for PTDF PhD is still a long way off, around next year may be July. If you are a Nigerian Lecturer, you stand a good chance. My colleagues that got it this year, were Lecturers in Nigerian Schools, am not sure if any non-lecturer got it. I mean the Full time PhD.
Just go ahead with the PhD application with PTDF, while the PhD application from the UK Schools would be in the pipeline.
Get your PhD Proposals ready and apply to the school, just go ahead with how far you can go and you can state PTDF by faith as your Funding.

Re: 2012/2013 ptdf scholarship scheme
I have started the application, but i'm not able to go beyond "Step 4" of the application, where we're to indicate our preferred test centre because the centres are not available on the form yet. I want to know if anyone encountered such or has gone beyond that step, just to make sure i'm not the only one in the boat. Thanks.

Getting the application link is not the key thing cos you would have to enter a PIN to gain access to the application form. Obtain the scratch card at any First Bank Branch. It contains the application link and some other details.
