If you want to enjoy your internet connection, then go for Starcomms or Visafone

MTN is better.
Airtel tariffs are too steep comparatively and the service isn't any better, if not worse: today it'll work, tomorrow a different story. I've both and I've overcome mtn modem issues by just plugging in my phone. See:

For example, why pay =N=16,000 for 6GB on airtel when I can get 8GB MTN at =N=8000(which I use)? Besides, MTN is faster and more reliable. Or on the cheaper side, pay =N=10,000 for Airtel 3GB when I can get MTN 3GB night at =N=2,500?

I would say, go for mtn. You don't even need a modem. Use your phone. Save initial costs. Just plug it to the computer, connect, and you are goo to go
