Our Client is a leading global cement company that imports, stores and bags cement and cementious products through an industrial facility consisting of a permanently moored barge. They are in charge of selling cement into the local market through a network of distributors and to major industrial customers which it operates within the Oil & Gas Free Zone, for the sale of cement duty-free to other companies in the Free Zone.

POSITION: TECHNICAL MANAGER
DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS
LOCATION: LAGOS

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Health & Safety Management.


  • Accountable for workplace safety of operations staff and the facility.
  • Participate in the implementation, improvement and revision of the H&S management system both as a line manager and as a member of the H&S Management Team.
  • Lead safety management by example, demonstrating clear visible felt leadership (VFL)



  1. General Management tasks


  • Participates in General Management tasks and in formulating company business strategy for business development.
  • Network with the technical community of the group across the globe in order to share best practices and resources.



  1. Industrial performance and management cycle.


  • Ensure industrial performance is properly monitored with KPIs, defined internally and by the Group.
  • Manages data required for accurate scheduling of ship arrivals and liaises with CTAG on a regular basis to optimize logistics costs and performance
  • Ensures that technical performance is achieved at optimum cost



  1. Availability and reliability of the discharge and bagging facility


  • Implements the group's maintenance best practices.
  • Ensure that procedures for predictive, preventive, routine & breakdown maintenance of the entire machinery & equipment are properly planned, prepared and implemented.
  • Arbitrates over conflicts between the need to maintain and the need to produce, taking the overall best interests of the Company into full consideration



  1. Marine certification and operations.


  • Assures the facility consisting of a barge holds all required marine certificates and operating authorizations, liaising with certification bodies like Lloyds.
  • Ensure that feeding ships comply with the port and facility constraints, to be optimized in view of freight costs decrease, in relation with CTAG shipping and trading dept.
  • Manage all claims on cargo or damages caused by ship operations following CTAG policies and liaising with the BU experts.



  1. Resources management/people mobilization.


  • Manages all aspects of the Technical human resource, including but not limited to: appropriate headcount, training, good workmanship, delegation of responsibilities and organization,
  • Drives people development through proper annual appraisals which objectively assess performance levels, define training needs and establish potential career succession paths
  • Administers all third-party contractor's activities pertaining to the industrial aspects of the facility



  1. Customer orientation


  • Develop a customer oriented culture for all plant technical personnel.
  • Participate in logistic and quality meetings with sales dept. and customers on delivery planning, quality claims and commitments.
  • Sometimes liaise directly with customer representatives in charge of quality or logistics.


KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Marine/ Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Post graduate degree in Engineering or Master's in Business Administration is added advantage
  • Must have at least 8 years post qualification experience in Manufacturing environment
  • At least 4 years management experience with proven leadership skills in multinational corporate environment
  • Experience in maintenance management systems is required
  • Knowledge of International ship and port facility security (ISPS) code is an advantage
  • Marine experience or knowledge would be an advantage.


Other Requirements

  • Ability to build partnership in a matrix organizational environment along with providing coaching/ counseling to all levels within the organization
  • Must demonstrate sound interpersonal skills with the ability to maneuver through complex client groups and business lines
  • Must be able to manage, coordinate and prioritize multiple projects
