Assistant Programme Manager
Position: B3(L) Assistant Programme Manager (12 Month Fixed Term Renewable)
General: Criminal Justice Team
The British High Commission is recruiting an Assistant Programme Manager on a fixed term contract till 31 March 2015 to work in its Criminal Justice Team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
 Contributing to the overall design of the programme and of individual elements within it. Devising implementation plans. Preparing bids, OSJAs, campaign plans and budget forecasts.
 Liaising with stakeholders and contractors.
 Providing terms of reference against which to measure delivery. Ensuring the quality and timeliness of contractors’ work against budget.
 Deputising for the UK-Based Programme Manager in his absences.
 Line Manager for one administrative assistant working half time on the Justice & Human Rights Partnership programme and half time on wider Chancery issues.
 Reporting to the JHRP Programme Manager within Chancery.

Qualities needed
The Assistant Programme Manager function sits within the Criminal Justice Team of the British High Commission, and is part of the FCO’s Justice & Human Rights Partnership working to establish a functioning and just “Pathway” through the Nigerian criminal justice system in relation to complex cases.
This is a new position with significant responsibility and a chance to make a real impact. The successful applicant will need to build strong networks with decision makers and then use those networks to deliver results.
The job holder will work closely with other members of the Criminal Justice Team, as well as other colleagues in the British High Commission and Deputy High Commission. Previous programme experience would be advantageous but not essential.
This is a full time position, with core working hours between 8am – 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am – 1.00pm on Friday – but a flexible approach will be required according to the demands of the job. The job will be graded B3(L) with a monthly gross salary of N442,149 including allowances. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid in Naira.


Administrative Assistant
Position: A2(L) Administrative Assistant (12 Month Fixed Term Renewable Contract)
General: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE JUSTICE & HUMAN RIGHTS PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME (50%) AND CHANCERY SUPPORT OFFICER (50%)
The British High Commission is recruiting an Administrative Assistant on a fixed term contract till 31 March 2015 to provide administrative support to the restructured Criminal Justice Team of the British High Commission in Abuja as part of the FCO’s Justice & Human Rights Partnership which seeks to establish a functioning and just “Pathway” through the Nigerian criminal justice system in relation to complex cases.
This person will also be providing support to the Second Secretary Chancery with small scale projects, visits, collation of information etc.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
 Assisting the Programme Manager, Assistant Programme Manager, Legal Adviser and Second Secretary Chancery with project inputs including organising inward and outward visits, capacity building activities, accounting procedures and routine financial management.
 Liaising with stakeholders and contractors to assist in the delivery of training programmes, workshops, building projects and other capacity building activity.
 Knowledge of the PRISM accounting system required (although training in this will be provided).
 Reporting to the B3 (L) Assistant Programme Manager.

Qualities needed
The job holder will report directly to the Assistant Programme Manager and work closely with other members of the Criminal Justice Team, as well as other colleagues in the British High Commission and Deputy High Commission. Administrative ability – to keep track of numerous projects, record activities and account for expenditure – is vital.
This will be a challenging position. Getting it right will not be easy, but the satisfaction of being in a position to make a difference means this is a unique opportunity for the right person.
