pls guys, which department is the best department to work in a bank?
Pls i will also want to know the reason(s) behind your answer. Thanks.
when u say best department in a bank...there are different sides to it...there is the operations and there is the managerial side of it...yes most banking operations are routine...but the heart of banking lies in the operations....under operations u ve domestic operaions called DOPS and u ve foreign operationns called FOPS...both DOPS and FOPS are very interesting and trust me u will love it....then there is the admin side or managerial or human side of it....iit has nothing to do with money...arears like HR, ADMIN, BRANDING, PRO etc...but I bliv ur area lies within the operation sides...but DOPS and FOPS are fyn...DOPS is more of branch level and FOPS head office...u ve ve to find out for ur self.
I guess you mean the easiest department? If they ask you where you would like to work, suprise them and tell them marketing before others,i tell you that will increse your chances of nailing the job.
@agalimojo, how far with the glo stuff? guy, lets talk. was also invited by zenith bank

i believe ,it depend on your vision and passion in life. if it is your vision to become a pratical banker;the best is operation, but if want to become accountant, auditor, financial analyst the best is audit and control dep'.
The best depart' for staff in the bank has a perfect correlation with their
passion .what is best for me may not be best for u. but what i want to
become and like to do with passion will sure be my best
Hey betadays,we still dey,no leave,no transfer. @all,you don't want to go for an interview and limit your chances. Don't squeeze yourself into one department,be smart, show them you can adapt. DON'T BE TOO CHOOSYOOOOOOOOOO!
i once worked in internal control as a "trainee", i wasn't cut out for it but it gave me great insight.
later moved to marketing, lots of free time but i hated it with my soul. a life of begging. though it pays if you meet your target and you get generous tips (legal and illegal) if you network well (positively and negatively). i don't altogether regret the experience though.
always wanted to be in operations (CSO, FT or MICR), that's where my natural strength lies in. sadly i never got the chance. if i had a second chance i would love to work in Domestic and foreign ops. i also fancy e-banking.
thanks guys for ur contributions and advice, i now know d best department to choose.
As a trainee it often marketing
pls wat is the difference btw customer care dept and Operations, i dont want marketing but i also wnt smething interesting. thanks
customer care is like a department, operations is like the faculty. other such departments would be cash and tellering, funds transfer (FT), MICR (Cheque book people), clearing etc
greeting to y"all.
In respect to the question you asked, the best department to be as a real Banker is just 2 Dept/units. Finance and Treasury.
Finance:
I mean Financial Control, Internal Control & Audit and Strategy (performance Management as some banks call it), In any of these units, you would get to see the bank from a broader perspective any understand every aspect of banking and you would be privy to almost all information about the bank.
Treasury;
They are actually the people that do banking, they manage the banks liquidity, earn income, trade in money market Instruments, forex, NTB, FGB, Placements, Takings, etc
An experience in these aspects of banking would make you great professionally and personally. But if you find urself in the branch, gun for Funds transfer and nothing else.
That is my little contribution as an ex-banker and bank auditor.
Then you don't need a job.Start somewhere.
for a start, any department would be ok. It all depends you and the bank's organisation.
wish you the best.
